Question detonation problem?

Howdy y'all

Quick question for those who might know.
I've just noticed a strange noise coming from my legacys engine bay on acceleration between 1500 and 2000 revs. Sounds like a metallic vibration.
I changed the oil , filter and sparkplugs about 1500 miles ago , not sure how long its been doing it as i only noticed it just now. If I rev the engine and hold it at high revs it sounds fine but when taking off at low revs it is quite noticable. Also the car tends to cut out quite easily when cold and then takes forever to start again. i.e you have to crank the ignition for ages before it catches .
Any ideas guys ???

Thanks

NAF

Sounds like a timing issue - crank angle sensor fault?

Does it 'pink' when under load in a too high gear?

I haven't tried that yet Friar ,that was gonna be my next test . I'm just gonna take it for a spin and see

If it was a detonation problem would I hear it constantly and not just at a certain rev
?

Cut out might be due to the MAF, metallic vibration could be numerous things, does it sound internal?

not really to be honest , sounds more like a rattle. bit of a coincidence though that I noticed it shortly after changing the plugs...
