P1 or Type R?
im looking for a 2 door to replace my classic uk turbo.
but is the P1 worth spending more on over the Type R?
what would you buy?
what are the problems with both of them?
cheers

Type-R, almost a no-brainer better of the 2(imo)Wait for the P1 owners now.(type R is how the P1 should have been)Its just my opinion guys.

P1 pro's:-
Looks
Holding it's value
Type R pro's:-
DCCD - if you like it
Rear wiper
Intercooler water spray
Drivetrain - diffs' etc.
Low ratio (mad!) gearbox
A P1 is an STI5 in a 2 door shell - supposedly (flame suit on)
You pays your money and takes your choice.

OK, same front discs and pads on both cars. TypeR has one pots on the rear for that essential 10% of braking. I'd much rather have the ABS all P1s had and typeRs didn't being that for both types of cars will do 99.9% of their mileage on roads.

BTW, I was backing the P1..

Having driven both cars in question.P1 for every day driving more suited to the uk roads.
I own a type R WRC v/LTD with the longer 5th gear and the last of the JDM's.
I use it as a week end car and its perfect for that, abit arsh and uncomfortable after a wile but great fun. Slightly quicker of the mark down to the shorter gearing but the longer 5th helps at about 50mph. I did have a version 5 type R without that longer 5th gear and at around 45/50mph it was noisey and was sittin on boost with the fuel consumption suffering.

I have a V5 Type-R and can drive 80-85 off boost which would be just 4-4.5k rpm
However you are right, it is very loud and high reving over a normal car, i can forgive it tho with the rapid acceleration hehe
My vote is for the Type-R aswell

I think ABS on an STi was a factory option iirc, my type r has a another rare factory option of digital climate control, so maybe mine was just loaded with some extra's? I have the fuses in place for ABS anyway.

Hi Az,
I saw your car just before Christmas, very nice.
The classic Impreza's with DCCD; Type R's and RA's cannot not have both ABS and DCCD fitted. There was a conflict between the two systems, or so everyone always says. Perhaps you can find a nice greasy/icy road today and try it out at 15mph or so.
We'll have to catch up again sometime soon. Have you thought anymore about the tyres?
Cheers
Graham

Type R. Get a Ltd if you intend to go on long journies as 5th gear is longer.
Mine blew at 34k. I'd now only consider a recent rebuilt/mapped for uk fuel one from a reputable tuner
P1's blow too as a lot of old scoobs did.
