Default Why do people always tailgate??

Do people not know how far you are meant to sit from the car infront??
Was on the motorway a while ago doing 100mph passing everything and their is a guy in a BMW on his phone so close to me i could only just see his lights. I did pull over and let him pass which he did and he pulled in in front of me and slowed down so i sped up overtook him and then he did it again so again i pulled in but this time waited till he was level with me and beeped the horn and gave him the finger made me feel better!!!

Doesn't it give the safe following distances in the highway code about motorway driving @100mph then?

thats a bit harsh im sorry i did 100 for 20 seconds to pass somebody and then pulled in and slowed down and no it does not say anything about distances at 100. I may also add i have no points on my licence!!

I think thats a bit harsh too.
How many people who drive a scooby on a motorway can honestly say that they have never done 100 mph????
I too get really annoyed at people who tailgate me, if they do it on an A road then I just slow down to well below what the speed limit is

I find that, at 155mph, I need to keep at least 55mm from the bumper in front.

As usual the 'holier than thou's' are alive and well on Scoobynet ! Surely everyone has done 100+ on occasion on a motorway when circumstance and conditions allow ?

Well you aren't really supposed to are you

but to get on the interweb and start moaning about other drivers doing the same probably ain't the brightest thing to do is it?

My "" was aimed at the fact that he went and looked in the Highway code to see if there's a suggested distance that should be left at 100mph!

I agree that mentioning an example speed over the current (completely outdated) legal limit might not be a good idea, however the basic point is sound.
Why do these idiots sit on your bumper when there is nowhere for you to go ? If you are doing 60 (or indeed any speed) on a motorway in the overtaking lane when there is plenty of room for you to move over you might, possibly, think that they are trying to make a point ie. please stop impeding my progress.
When you are overtaking slower moving traffic and vehicles are in front of you, where are they expecting you to go ? develop vertical takeoff ?

It is very tempting to left footed brake just enough to illuminate the brake lights and watch them seem to go into reverse ! (not that I would ever condone such behaviour of course)

The 2 second rule still "kind of" works, because the distance travelled in that 2 seconds gets longer the faster you're going, but in practice you'd probably need longer than 2 seconds to avoid brown trousers...

Hazard Lights.

1 0f 2 things happen, they brake & back off orr>> get really angry & try to get into your ashtray.

AS someone said, where do they expect you to go???

Noticed a lot of BMW's Audi's guilty of this lately.

Had an Audi doing this the other day, really couldn't be bothered so, when I passed the car & moved into the middle lane he waved at me with a Seig Heil Salute Herr Hitler would have loved.

I then watched him, doing the exact same to the next car & the Next.

I came off the M40 & Oxford to turn right, (so did he) I got into the inside lane & he got caught in heavy traffic on the outside.

I just went with the slow flow of the traffic, kept on the iside, no undertaking or smart *** stuff.

WE got to the Cowley exit before he caught up with me (not sure 5 miles or so?).

Still in the boot of the car in front.

Happy motoring

Fit a towbar, its amazing when the traffic slows quickly how much the car behind then gives you room
