Lotus Elise
#1
My girlfriend is thinking about getting a second hand lotus elise.
Anybody on this BBS got one / had one previously?
I'd be interested in your views on
a) reliability
b) running costs (economy, servicing etc)
c) dealers
d) practicality (it would be used virtually every day)
We've just been to look at one and the seats in particular felt none to comfy. Is this the case on longer runs?
Cheers for any info

I know lots of Elise owners, and indeed they make up quite a bit of the numbers on our track days up North now
Great cars, fantastic handling, dealers either brilliant or crap. Some common faults with windows, and leaks from the roof are to be expected.
Probably the best thing to do is to join the mailing list for Elise owners, an ask them all the questions. The list can be found at

Dales.
I have one on my fleet. It is a tad cramped and somewhat small inside in terms of leg room. However, its a great drivers car. Forgiving handling and great response all round. Most switches in the car can be found on vectras and corsas and the side indicators are that of whats on a nova should you want a set of clear ones
Drive one for about 100 miles over bumpy road and that will ease your concerns. Ours has uprated suspension and is the "sport" version with leather. But it is sooooo basic and really not one for making you go "ooooh".It tends to be rented by 20 something girls more than blokes who go for the cars in our range that have some decent grunt. The elise is not a slow car, however is not a spleen ripper! If you need a proper blat in one. Let me know, I ca arrange if your near to the office.
