Who has the most unreliable Scoob?
OK after 3 bombproof Scoobs I have hit paydirt and acquired a lemon. See if any of you can beat this:
MY03 UK STI - Brand new, dealer purchased, dealer serviced, currently on 64K
Catalogue of disasters
Year 1 - alarm malfunction - alarm replaced under warranty
Year 1 - ride choppy - several visits to dealer - Prodrive suspension purchased - ride still bad
Year 1 - handling on limit unpredictable - suspension adjusted - no better
Year 1 - rear suspension knocking - rear shocks replaced under warranty - ride improved but not great
Year 2 - front suspension knoking - front shock absorbers replaced under warranty
Year 2 - rear tyres uneven wear - rear suspension adjusted
Year 2 - alternator failed - replaced under warranty
Year 2 - boot leak - fixed under warranty (3 attempts)
Year 3 - rear suspension knocking again - rear shocks again replaced under warranty
Year 3 - boot leaking again - still not completely fixed (5 tries)
Year 4 - rear differential failed - 3 months out of warranty - £1500 bill - secondhand diff
Year 4 - check engine light on - oxygen sensor failed £350 bill
Year 4 - rear suspension knocking yet again - rear shocks again replaced but with non-Subaru items - £500 bill
By now had decided to get rid of it, but just as I am looking to trade it in (I will not sell it to anyone privately) this happens yesterday:
Heater matrix failure, car misting up and full of smoke through vents - not sure what it will cost but it won't be cheap.
Can anyone top that?

It's now called Christine and I am thinking of a red re-spray
I did ask Subaru to help with the cost of the diff replacement as it was only 3 months out of warranty, but they point blank refused hence why it is sporting a second-hand one.
Will never by another and after 12 years of ownership that is pretty sad, but that's life.

Got any careless mates who smoke and may just leave a tab smouldering in the back seat?
Seriously, as someone who was made redundant yesterday, I know a bit about bad luck but your certainly getting your (un)fair share!

What with engines going pop, people thinking his car is a moving target and gear boxes going crunch (or was it clutch) Andy aint had a good run with his cars.
Never mind Andy, at least its Crimbo!

Ouch, seems to be the season for it, got promoted twice at work, recently 1.5 months ago and then find out people are being made redundant so may walk into work new year and find out I no longer work there

Bummer on the job front. Hope you manage to have a decent Christmas anyway.

Mine's been a bit of a nightmare, bought it with a buckled wheel, then since i've owned it... the rear windscreen wiper packed in, the interior light deosn't come on when the doors open, the radio stopped working, the lights above the number plate stopped working, the abs controller packed up, the gearbox has problems, and finally the immobiliser packed in and I don't have the overide pin, so I havn't started it for 2 weeks. Besides that I love it.

When I had my old Type R I had quite a few problems with that.
Firstly I found quite a large oil leak on the gearbox, luckily though I had only just bought the car so Scoobyclinic repaired that free of charge
Then about 2 months later I blew the turbo.
Then my misses opened the door onto a brick wall!!!
After that it was running fine for about another 2 months and then the engine went pop, so it needed a new bottom end.
I checked through all the paperwork and noticed that the car had already had an engine rebuild in its lifetime.
Anyway I thought enough is enough and sadly decided to sell the car to a good mate.
As it turned out im glad I did sell it as the engine went bang again!!
So if anyone is driving round in a blue STi 4 Type R (R***GAP)..... get ready for an engine rebuild shortly!!

its def one of those years bought my scoob 1 week later fuel leak, cost me 600 quid without car for 11 days waiting for parts, mother in law died, cat died, nan died, then 4 weeks ago father in law collapsed, died in ambulance, was revived, had a five hour op, transferred to 4 different hospitals, let home collapsed again.
hes recovering ok at the moment.
good luck to all those with job problems being going through same this year as
well.
dont be put of another scoob as you managed to get it right first couple of times, sure you can do it again.
happy new year

Had this one a while back!!
bought an impreza flood damaged....
once we got her started the clutch went
exhaust was next
fitted a new timing belt
sold the
bought it back (why)
ticking over at SMD timing belt pulley collapsed
another new belt and tensioners
went for a week then
refused to fire/start all
mant hours tracing wires/testing circuits before finding a cam sensor >ECU wire broken
out she goes ye ha
melted a piston next day @150mph (my fault)
new forged pistons/organic clutch new upgraded oil pump de-cat new exhaust for Aghadowey time attack
one hot lap big end failure but fast enough to win class (o joy)
back to SMD new short motor fitted
lifted her 1st/2nd/3rd clutch slave cylnder has a crap to itself
reversed back to a bemused SMD
new slave cylnder fitted
headed to Ballymena next day fault develops in new pressure plate
back to slightly peeved SMD
gearbox out repaired pressure plate changed gear oil/diff oils etc
managed 4 miles before rear wheel bearing collapse nearly shooting me through the **** hedge SMD on the phone
calmist mechanic in Ireland arrives and changes the rear hub on the roadside
Home to Magherafelt without incident but tripped on the doorstep coming into the house. SMD's phone is now swiched off!!!
BTW a wee woman in a clio drove past me when I was waitin for Sean with the hub and her exhaust fell off

within the last week kerbed both nearside alloys, cracked front splitter and took a chunk out of it just before we broke off for christmas announced 30 people out of 77 will be going ...**** just got 120000 mortgage. Could be starting a group buy for body parts/organs. Still Merry Christmas hope everyone gets sorted by the new year

I was pretty unlucky with my last type r. Probably more down to abuse than bad luck really. I went through 6 gearsboxes, a clutch, flywheel then eventually a bottom end. As you can imagine it cost me a fortune in repairs but it was fun when it worked so well worth it
