Scuba Steve, you should be ok if your cats are still in.

Suspect it must be a fuel problem, running rich/lean??

Are you running Super or 95 Ron??

There is a Petrol Additive that you put into you tank that sorts this.

The boys that service my Scoob, put this in to help with emissions.

Ivan or Sean will tell you what the additive is called & will probably do mail order.

Forester Subaru - Subaru Parts, Subaru Spares, Subaru Breakers

I hope this helps.

Regards.

Depending on its date of first registration, it doesnt need to pass a cat test (pre August 1995).

Just checked the log book and it was registered June 1995.
How sure are you of this? Because i will go and argue this out with the garage if you are 100% sure.

Cheers

Hi Steve. Do you have the emission figures? If you let me have them, I'll tell you what to do next. I need CO, HC and Lambda.

I am certain. If they are ignorant of the facts then I believe that there is an MOT helpline that they can call.

Simon

ps. Im sure that someone will be able to post the flowchart which confirms this; you can print it off and show them.

There is a VOSA hotline to call yes, as they did it when I tried to get the wife's JDM Celica through...

Anything with an 'effective date' prior to August 1995 that is not on the manufacturers defines list should be tested as a non-cat car (3.5% CO).

The thing is it passed but i was charged £25 because he said he had to nurse it through
Not sure what to make of this as i had the same thing on my fto last 2 years .
Same garage this was also an import 1995
Not sure if they are doing me a favour or just ripping me off

Ripping you off....you could complain to VOSA as they either test to the regs or not, and if 'nursing it through' is within the regs, no charge, if its outside the regs then it shouldn't be being passed - excepting of course it shouldn't be being tested as a cat car anyway!
