Which Company Car - Apr 2002
#1
As many of you may be aware, the tax laws change in April next year - company cars will get taxed based on the CO2 emissions NOT the annual mileage as it is now. For company car owners this is a very big deal - exec cars are going to at least double your tax bill in most cases!!!!
This is great news if you have a low emissions car, but very bad if you own say a 4*4 or Jag.
Any ideas on cars that meet the following criteria:
1) Low emissions
2) "Performance"
The new law taxes from between 15% and 35% of the cars value depending on the emissions laws. low = 155mg, high = 300+mg
Has anyone seen anywhere that emissions figures are available for "decent" cars?
Has anyone thought of what their next company car will be with this in mind???

If you buy a Jap import, they don't come with 'official' emissions figures which means they're taxed according to engine size. For a Scoob or Evo, that's the 'Up to 2 litre' category which means you would pay less tax than you would according to their emissions figures.
See if you can persuade your company to buy you a Jap import.

Diesel is the way to go to lower those tax bills...
Cheaper alternative to the 330D is the 320D. Particularly as they are about to bring out a more powerful version with 150bhp and something like 270lbft of torque. More torque than a standard Scoob turbo IIRC.
Audi A4 diesel turbo is not far off these figures too.
Emissions info is here:

the VW 1.8 turbo is very low for its quickness,192 rating (only a couple over their standard 1.6) In its 180 form, which the Golf is gonna get,it should a balance between "evoness" and a relatively decent tax code.Havent seen the ratings but would have thought the Cupras would be a good bet as well.

As said above 1.8 turbo VAG engines look good in 150 or 180 bhp guises.
Recently bought an Octavia due to upcoming tax changes.
Top performance from Seat Leon Cupra or Skoda Octavia RS. Also best prices. Recent conversation confirms that VAG are limiting supply of 'cheaper' cars (Seats & Skodas) to avoid degrading VW & Audi brands. Sourcing some models involves a wait.
If no figures are available for CO2 emmissions you will be taxed at 25% of car price. This could be a way of reducing tax by importing slightly different model (eg STi)?
