Hi, Have had my mudflaps off for a weeknow but my front wheels semm to be making a noise when turing. I'm sure they are catching the wheel arch.

My tyre size at fronts are 225/45 R17 94. Whats the solution here do I go down a Tyre size if so what size will I need.

Have the garage sought the arches out or do I need to and buy a set of 16"

Well its a Classic MY97 import STI.

 

Is it on full lock or just turning generally mate and is the car lowered,are they std impreza wheels etc more info please.............

 

It seems to happen when I'm generally turing say I'm parking up turing left/right.

The vehicle has not been lowered and the wheels I don't think are standard as they were on the car when I brought her.

 

Do you reckon I just need to change the size of the tyre.

 

You don't mention the wheel width and offset (maybe cast into the inner wheel rim) but I think that the tyres are far too wide for a classic. Prodrive used to fit 205/45 on their 17's but most people seem to use 215/40s as I do myself. Hope this helps

 

You can get the inside of the arch rolled, I saw a company linked on SIDC somewhere...

 

to be honest i think it may be the tyre size. i run 215/40/17 and dont have scrubbage, even with a car full. but i have eibach lowering springs and adjustable gas shocks to stiffen things up.

offset of the wheel as said earlier too. im running prodrive wheels so perfectly set up.

 

As chocolate said i dont think its the tyre size i run 215/35/18 with no problems on my94 classic sti

Well I've made the the garage aware and they are going to see if they can roll the arches if not I wil just invest in a different tyre size probably 215/40

if not toyos are your friend.

 

On a 17 inch tyre you dont want anything above 215/40/17 or 205/45/17, anything wider/taller will cause the wheels to rub the arches.

no. take it somewhere with lazer alignment facilities. i had my tracking done and camber settings for £65 all inc at richtoy motorsport in winterton a week after having my new set up on. unless where you have it fitted does it anyways, but scoobybits didnt.

 

no, no no. you need to have all 4 tyres the same size. remember your car is awd. if you have different sizes on your differential will go pop. think about it, the wheels all need to be travelling the similar distance.

Yep if I change the tyre's I will get all tyres done. Don't want my diffs going kaput

 

Well I got a quote from Kwik Fit for 205/45 R17 they only had Michelin and for four tyres 514 quid. What do you guys reckon on Michelin.

kwik fit will rip you off senseless. any half decent tyre place will charge what?? say £10ish to fit balance a wheel.

why not go for 215/40/17, and get that extra width for grip... made a difference to my scoob.

 

I will try 215/40 R17 seen TOYO on the website u gave me. Are they any good.

 

Toyos are excellent. And you should be able to get a set for a darned sight less than the cost of Michelins (Maybe £400ish?)

Well Iv'e had car back from garage and they say the wheels are from a newerage impreza so my offset is wrong. They hav also picked up that when cornering the tyres are rubbing against my struts.

The garage bloke says I could go down a tyre size but then it would look wrong and woul foobar my ride. He said I could fit spacers but said on a performance car like mine it could be dangerous.

So basically he said to try and swap them for a proper set for year a buy new one's.

So if I were to buy new ones like 17 what size would I need including offset.
