Question Is time up for this scam now?

Read t'other day that once a cheque clears it can't be grabbed back if it turns out to be stolen etc. Presumably scams like one below are over

=====

Dear Sir/Madam,
I am interested in purchasing this vehicle ,it suits my requirements perfectly,I run two garages ,one in Dublin and the other in the Netherlands, i shuffle most of my time between the two .

THESE ARE MY TERMS OF TRANSACTION IF CAR IS EXACTLY AS STATED IN ADVERT:

1) I AM OKAY WITH THE STATED PRICE OF £??.

2) I WILL BE PAYING WITH A BANKER'S DRAFT / CHEQUE WHICH I WILL ALLOW TO CLEAR BEFORE THE PICKUP/SHIPMENT OF THE CAR.

3) I WILL INCLUDE FEES FOR SHIPMENT IN PAYMENT, THIS MY SHIPPING AGENCY WILL USE FOR PICK-UP.

The excess funds will go towards covering costs for shipping, shippers fees, insurance, tax and any other expenses that might be incurred getting it down to the new owner.

I will want you to get in touch with the following details if my terms are okay:

FULL NAME............................
ADDRESS........................
TELEPHONE NUMBERS...................(Mobile and Land)

As soon as i have your details,i can have payment effected immediately, all things being equal,we should have this wrapped up by the end of this week.

Pls note that you'll have to send on the balance on the funds that you'll get to my shipper so he can come attend to the pick up as soon as you make the car ready.

I beleive that most transaction are based on trust,so i will look forward to a succesful transaction with you.

Best Regards,

Victoria Adams.

Cheques that are stolen can be "bounced" years after they are cashed, and money taken back out of your account. That's how these scams operate.

Mmmmm, we're protected now though

Cheque and Credit Clearing Company - 2-4-6 changes explained

"2-4-6 changes explained
The example and diagram below show how the 2-4-6 changes will work.

Daniel runs a window cleaning business and he only accepts cash or cheques as payment. Daniel collects all cheques made out to his company from the previous week and takes them into his bank to pay in on Monday morning.

His company account starts to earn interest on the money on Wednesday (+2 days), and by Friday morning (+4 days) his bank will enable him to withdraw the money from the deposited cheques from the account, even though the cheques could still bounce.

By the end of the following Tuesday (+6 days), he can be certain that the cheques will not bounce, and the money from them cannot be reclaimed from the company account without his consent."

Yes, with effect from 30 November, 6 clear working days after paying in a cheque, it cannot be bounced in anyway and UK banks will honour fraudulent/stolen cheques or those with insufficient funds if they have not managed to bounce them within those 6 days.

This does not apply to drafts nor does it apply to overseas cheques so the scammers will still try - there are mugs who still don't realise how the scam works!

I always thell them to pay their shipper direct and then get them (their shipper) to pay me cash when they collect the car.

They can't seem to understand as I've never had one go through with it.
