i have the pulse extraction system on my 06sti, its a full system change though. I purchased the system from tsl. They do a 3" group n which offers a good sound without upsetting too many people. I would also change the center section with the resonator box on, as this restricts a lot of the burble. If your in the notts area pop down as they have plenty of cars you can listen to.

I've got the prodrive backbox on my 01 WRX. good burble, quiet although still nicely throaty on WOT. Ninja is an often recoommended back box as a goodcompromise, although will be louder than Prodrive.

i found that the 2006 onwards models are alot quieter than the previous models.. but you can get the burble back!

i started off with changing the backbox for a TSL Group N one.. u could hear the burble now but not much of it..

then i got the TSL de-resonated centre section.. improved it again but still not what i wanted!

then finally changed the backbox for a Afterburner Vortex and got exactly what i was after..

burble you can hear really well but nothin loud enough to upset the neighbours!

Got an 02 WRX with a Subaru WR Sport backbox - burbles and sounds good but isn't loud, no other mods. It's pretty much the same as the Prodrive one.

See view my scoob.

I have a racebox BB with and afterburner centre section. Sounds great, not too loud but a throaty burble, which is made even deeper by removing the cat.

So many to choose from. One mans' compromise is anothe mans' perfection.

Have a lOOk on the scoobyworld for exhaust clips.

Centre and backbox should give you the noise you're after. Ninja is a good choice. Had one myself. lOOks and sounds the part.

Full decatted it's awesome and angry.

MY03 WRX and I've got a Hayward & Scott original design bb with a straight through centre section - gives a nice burble!

Am now in the process however of looking at STi up-pipe to remove the cat from there, a sport cat downpipe and remove the last cat from the system with a decat pipe - should note hefty after that!!

if the 2.5 sti exhaust note is even quieter than the 2 litre you 2.5 guys must wonder if the engine is running or not!

when i got mine i couldn't believe the lack of noise, to the point of finding it embarrassing.(granted i had come from a full decatted firestorm classic)

so after 1 week it had a prodrive b/box on

this was ok but needed something else, a de-resonated pipe soon followed and made it a tiny bit louder but the tone was quite a bit deeper.

next was an sti genome back box with the de-res pipe and this was just about spot on. a superb piece of kit and gives the best of both worlds with noise.

now it's got a prodrive sports cat and the 2nd cat junked for a straight pipe with the de-res and genome. to be honest it's maybe touching a little too loud for me, but i can live with it

i've posted up my own vid on youtube of the gemone with the de-res pipe, bit crappy quality but gives you an idea how good it sounds (same user name as on here)
