Fireman Funeral Today
#6
R.I.P Fellas from a fellow Firefighter
Poem written by a 13yr old girl in 2002
Our Heros
Where are the people
Who called the brigade,
And asked them so desperately
To come to there aid.
“Please help my family”
People would shout,
Please risk your life to get them all out.
Off they would go
Straight to the blaze,
Not really knowing
That things are a haze.
All they can see
Is to save a life,
A husband,a brother
A sister or wife.
Without hesitation
Not a second thought
Not even thinking
That they too could get caught.
How can we be sure
That the end of the day,
That a Firemans family
Has no certain delay.
Waiting so patiently
By the telephone,
Or maybe even worse
They might not get home.
Coz, what about tragedy
That Firemen don’t cause,
And yet, whilst their family waits
The fires wont pause.
Will they get home ?
To chat and to sup,
Or will it be tragedy
And they will not show up.

Sadly, it is reported that Warwickshire Police are seriously considering bringing corporate manslaughter charges against Warwickshire Fire Service over the deaths.
There is a lot of cardboard, plastic film and plastic containers in the packing plant. The fire doors which had been ordered had not been fitted so the fire took hold very quickly.
Half the building was a World War II aircraft hangar and I recall that it had no fireproofing on the steelwork so when the fire took hold, the heat very quickly twisted the steels which are a complex arrangements of pretty flimsy angle iron.
Interestingly this type of building was designed so a 1,000lb bomb could drop inside, blow everything and everyone to bits, but the frame would stand the outward blast so you could just sweep out the mess, fill the hole in the floor and resheet the hangar in a few days.
It was not designed to withstand a concentrated fire of plastic and cardboard.
The firemen went into the building to seek the heart of the blaze not realising the speed of the impending structural failure, probably because they did not also realise at that stage, the intensity of the fire itself.
They had been told they were not looking for anybody in the building, but given that the firemen were local blokes who knew about the immigrants working there, they may well have thought people might still be in the building.
I am very, very sorry that this tragic accident happened. Firemen are always pretty cheery lads and lasses in spite of some of the dreadful things they see.
So far, over £100K has been raised to help the families and to have some kind of memorial.
People wishing to donate to the fund can take their contributions to any branch of Lloyds TSB and deposit it into account No. 00581408, Sort Code 30-00-02 or post it to St Nicholas Rectory, Old Rectory Gardens, Alcester.
