Heavy Fuel Use on Warrany Fix
#1
Interested in your opinions...
Just had a warranty fix on my WRX, perceived gearbox noise. Left it there with 2/3 of a tank. The garage put 90 miles on the car and didn't top up the fuel. I asked them to top it up, after I had checked, which they did,...reluctantly. I thanked them and drove the car away. The gauge showed 1/2 full after the "top up".
My take on this is that its under warranty and I shouldn't be paying for them to find out the cause. No problem with them doing 90 miles to check it out, just that they wanted me to pay the fuel cost. Am I being tight or do you think its justified?
Cheers,
Richie

Not knowing the circumstance of the fault, but surely 90miles is a bit excessive too..
I do hate the way some garage mechanics alergerly take the nearest car when it is time to go home.
ho ho JGM

Your car has obviously been hammered round for 90 miles !
Years ago I left my Manta at the Vauxhall dealers and waited for my life, I watched two mechanics get in it and proceed to bollock it senseless, returning 20 mins later, I got 2 new rear tyres and a free service out of them !

Thanks guys.
There was a definite noise between 70 and 75mph especially after a long journey. They checked it out at the last service, and told me to come back if it got worse. The service guy did hear it aswell. It did get worse, so i booked in december for the earliest date possible ...9th Jan!! By the time it got to 9th Jan, the noise seemed to be somewhat less (sods law) to the point of which the garage could not reproduce the fault.
I've never seen any small print about fuel charges? If they do 90 miles to rectify a car under warranty though, I would not expect to pay for it. Out of warranty, i wouldn't grumble about 10-20 miles certainly.
Anyway, it does seem significantly better, "maybe parts just bedding in" they said.

Rich
