You can run a boost controller, and with the right boost controller you can probably achieve better driveability (Apexi, allows you to change boost for a number of different factors - what gear you're in, amount you press throttle etc)... But since the link ECU when properly mapped can be very driveable what you'll want next is probably a bigger turbo, as the MY99 has a fairly small one - TD04. I believe one of the better value turbos is a VF23... Then you'll want the link remapped to take advantage of the turbo and keep everything safe.
Of course it all depends on what else you have done, but I'm guessing you already have a decatted exhaust/better induction etc...

I wouldn't bother if you already have a Link. You will not be able to run higher overall boost, but you may benefit from quicker spool up. I gather the wastegate duty cycle on the Link is static during spool up (pls correct if wrong!) which contributes to wastegate creep, but the end result will be the same. Sam says the best boost he could map on a Link MY99/00 UK car like mine was 400rpm later than where I am peaking with a Dawes manual boost controller (£26 from group buy). Drives as smoothly as stock and a hell of a lot quicker. I also have a PPP ECU.
