Whining noise when pulling away
I'm not sure if my problem is brakes, drive train or what so posted in general.
I have a 2005 WRX which has done approximately 19k miles. Around 3months/2k miles ago I noticed a slight whinning noise when pulling away from a stop/slow roll. The problem only occurred occasionally and usually after I'd been giving it some beans. I thought it was probably a brake binding and booked it into the dealer as the car is still under warranty.
In the last 3 months the cars been to 2 different dealers 5 or 6 times but I still have the problem. The brakes & bearings have been checked and on the last visit the rear shocks and rear diff were replaced.
The problem is still there and now occurs more frequently, specifically after breaking from speed (70mph) and then pulling away from a stop/slow roll - like you do when entering a roundabout.
The only time I've had a similar problem was years ago on an old Capri and was resolved by removing the rear brake drums and cleaning out the brake dust.
Has anybody any suggestions as the 50 mile round trip to the dealer is really starting to annoy me.

On a serious note though, it could be the brakes binding but I would have thought the dealer would have sorted this easily.
Try jacking up the front end, (then the rear) and spinning the wheels to hear the brakes binding.
It could be a caliper seizing up.

Originally it was only happening occasionally so was hard to demonstrate to the dealer. Hopefully now it's more frequent it'll be easier to find.
I can't even say 100% if it's coming from the front or the back - it's one of those noises which are hard to pin point.
