Default Urgent Advice needed by Type 25 owner

Hi just bought a Type 25 yesterday, it had a bit of a light knocking noise but oil was on the low part of stick so I thought wrongly this was a tappet noise, had a full oil change to day 10/60 fully syn dont make any diff atal the tuner who has done hundreds of these cars said his money was on Piston slap, cars done under 10k miles :-( im seriously worried as this was private sale, so if there is a Type 25 owner out there ?? is this normal ? any help cheers , steve.

Is it actually like a tap tapping noise or a deep knock, could be pistonslap, does it dissapear when warm?

An type 25 is a very rear car, so your tuner hasn't done '100's' of them!
As said above, if it goes away when warm, then it's piston slap, not a problem, just annoying. If it sounds like a lose bolt rattling around in your engine, then one or more of the big end bearings has gone. Prepare your wallet as this means an engine rebuild or replacment.

yep your right tuner has not seen many of these and they have different internals, the noise is quiter when warm but its still there on tick over or as you apply a little throttle, have spoke to Ian Litchfield who is kindly going to have a listen to it tomorrow, but he says if it is then no worries!but its worth the 3 and half hour drive for peace of mind so im going to set off in the wee hours to see what they say.
oh Car is a 05, runs super sweet once moving but its just that knocking when at tickover.

I can concur with the others. The pistons are forged in the MY05 cars and consequently there is a noise, particularly when cold.

Warm it up gently, then enjoy!

Then get some pictures up

Are you sure you want to drive for 3 and a half hours in a car that could possibly have an engine problem?

No one closer to home that you can take it too?

^^ Licho's "made" the T25 so it's probably best to take it there somehow.

OK sorry for delay, I was shattered yesterday, got up at 0245 and left after 3am for Tewksbury Glos, around 200miles, I had already driven the car back 100 miles or so from the purchase so I was confident it was good for jouney, the car just whistled all the way down didnt miss a beat sounds a bit like being in a airliner got the same low pitch whistle, tis very nice noise :-) anyway got there in 3hrs 10 mins sat around for a bit then Ian Litchfield turned up and asked me in, having a listen to the car he said he wouldnt worry about it they all do it! but he would have some of the guys from Powertrain next door have a look, the chief engineer had a look and said its noisy than some but not as noisy as others and it was only one piston, it just the nature of the beast he said.

Having checked the oil when I arrived it hadnt used hardly anything baring in mind these engine are designed to use some oil and with a pretty high speed return watching all them dam gatsos on the A14 she just whistled back home, I did on the way back for the first time use some heavy throttle to pass a car and a truck ---------BLIMEY !!! took me by suprise, this thing is fast---real fast, getting home once she was cool I checked the oil again small amount used but thats over 400 miles with a couple of boot downs (once I did it once I wanted another go-and another-and another---) I still dont like the tick over but soon as its rolling its music to me ears.

That's two good things I've read about Litchfield today - just going the extra mile for folk. Nice.
