Default Anyone using RainX

Just a question I am using it on my visor for biking and its excellent. My STI type UK has the usual Lack for rear wiper....anyone used rainX on their rear screens and find it helpful?

Brilliant stuff

I was looking into getting some the other day as I found it brilliant for motorcyling. People seem to love it or hate it on cars, though. Seems that it can smear and make things worse if you are going too slowly for rain to clear and have to use the wipers.

I plan to just use it on the side windows, mirrors and rear window.

thanks for the feedback guys. I have used it for a while for my crashhelmet and its great tbh, ideal for bikes as it just then makes it even easier to blow off the water, just wasnt sure how the scoobs rear window would handle it. I will try it out this w/e.

I thought I would use Rain X on the rear screen (no wiper). But the wind doesn't blow the rain off, and I found that it stayed as micro drops rather than becoming a thin see through sheen, i.e. it was worse than nothing Then when I tried to clean it off I found that it wouldn't go. About 2 years later it has just about disappeared. One of the worst decisions i've made about my car I wouldn't recommend it for that application.

Interesting comment, speedking. Perhaps I won't bother then. I have heard that it's almost impossible to remove once you've applied it. (People on another site recommending T-cut, lighter fluid and Nitromors (!) to shift it.

Would still be interested to hear what AllyJ thinks if you do try it.

On the area of rear wiper sweep the rain moves away in droplettes at any reasonable speed. No reason to use the rear wiper once moving. So for JDM at least it's good stuff.
We should all have a rear wiper! No?

I have used it on all my cars, very good at speed, but slowly can gather droplets, however just use the wipers and its fine,

No problems here.

Used it for a while and found it excellent, then it started to smear badly so haven't used it since.

I use the Halfords own brand stuff. Very good at speed and at night. It works best when fresh on and loses capability as it wears off. So no problems with it being hard to get rid of or smearing.

I have it on my scooby and love it. i used to use it on my crash helmet but found that all the dead flies messed it up a bit to often..

Not sure why you would want to do ya back window with it thou.

I use it, and think its great, will only usually see it "work" at speeds though.

As for putting it on your back window, simple there is no rear wiper and its nice to be able to see out the back of the car lol.

I tend to apply to screen, side windowns and mirrors.

I put it on the rear window as well. With no rear wiper as soon as u get above 40MPH it runs clean, saves u having to clear it before u set off in the morning

Good stuff.
A bit of additional work when washing the car.
Not sure if its really worth the extra effort though.

I think it improves if you use it all the time i.e a good coating is on screen.

Has stopped my wipers squeeking too

Has any one tried.
1/ Their Glass cleaner?? (used it once not too impressed, maybe I did it wrong)
2/ Their anti mist stuff??

As a biker never used it, I thought it ruined the visor.
Makes sense should have used it, leathers hung up for a while, but will come out again soon.

Only thing that annoys me is that if you use your wipers you have to re-apply it sooner, so I try to avoid using my wipers till i really have to

No downside imo.

well it gets the thumbs up from me. Applied it Saturday then we had wet sunday and the it was a lot better. Found as the comments above once I hit the duel carriageway above 40 or so the rain just beads right off worked a treat.

Ok, I'm convinced. I'll have to get some.

AllyJ, did you put it on the front and back and if so, did it work on the back window?

I used it only on the back window and mirrors I didnt put in on the side windows or windscreen.

Make sure the screen is clean and dry before you apply it or like i found you get smearing and I had to re do it.

rain X is wicked stuff i do all my windows on my sti bug

the way i apply is this and i always get top results

1. clean glass with autoglym fast glass
2.apply rain X with a merguiars applicator sponge (apply in circles)
3.leave for atleast 10mins to haze over
4.buff with microfibre towel
5.then use water in a spray bottle to spray a mist over the glass
then buff it up with papertowel or kithen roll

works everytime for me!!
rear window alway clear on mine and i have no wiper
