Its embarrassing to the Subaru name, they are certainly moving into a new market with this car and its not the focus market, the marlet that this car will be competing in is who can make the naffest looking car in Asia and they will have fearce competion from Huyundai.

Utterly bland, insipid, uninspired... would look right with a Hyundai or Daewoo badge on the front - and, of course, I wouldn't give it more than a moment's attention.

TG's next 'reasonably priced car', perhaps? Assuming that it actually is, of course.

I do actually quite like the STI, but the best designs look good without the need of flared arches and spoilers.

Entirely bland and americanised. Just like the '92 Sti was. I love what it could become.

I followed a black 2008 WRX saloon the other morning and it didn't look too bad in the metal. The rear did not look as crass as the pictures would suggest. There was a very subtle spoiler on it.

It's certainly nothing special, but I think that's the idea, it's meant to be a more toned down version of the impreza to appeal to a wider market.

These pics were taken from the american subaru page. Theres no mention of a saloon in the uk pages. U sure it was a subaru saloon?

I'm absolutley positive. What I failed to mention is my current location, which is Toronto, thus explaining why it's possible to see a saloon

My girlfriend didn't bat an eyelid when it rolled past and was surprised when I pointed out to her that it was the new WRX, she said she'd never have thought it was an impreza. We did agree that from an "under the radar" stance, that might actually be a good thing. It might deter theives and also the morons who want to indulge in a race.

That would add up. My personal opinion of the car is that it looks dull. Im comming round to the hatch a little but i honestly think this is a mistake. Especially with the new evo comming out.
I hav read somewhere that theyve done the hatch cause of the other cars in the rally stages. The saloon was built for tha american market due the yanks not liking hatch backs. If you want a saloon, (god know why) youll have to get it imported.

Interesting that people think they've done a Kia or a Proton with the car.

If you forget the grilles and ****. Look at the wheelarches and the bodylines.

The Saloon is to me, more reminiscent of a BMW 3 series. You know, the Chris Bangle flame surface design bolox.

I quite like the look of the saloon. I could come to like the look of the hatch but at the moment the lack of a boot keeps making me think it's a bit unbalanced. Kind of like an elephant seal... Huge nose bump to allow for the scoop but no Rse end to balance the looks.

What this car needs is a bit of proper engineering. A wide track/wide arch version would be nice....

J.

The old Blobeye was according to Clarkson 'not exactly a deft flick of a designers pen'. At least it looked menacing . This thing stinks!! No styling whatsoever. Typical budget Jap rubbish borrowing looks from other marques. BMW 1 series/Proton/Hyundai body. Lexus MPV rear lights, Klingon Cack Spaceship front lights. In 1997 I remember wanting the old classic after Colin Mcrae won WRC. It cost megabucks at the time (25k or thereabouts I think!) and you were SOMEONE if u could afford one. These days Subaru have devalued and disgraced the Impreza name trying to appeal to the masses. They would do well to realise that the Impreza was/is not a refined family motor. It is a turbocharged rally car devoid of finesse. Poor mans supercar. Not sure about foreign markets but in UK the main model we buy is WRX or STI.Lets face it the GX does a good job but hardly sets pulses racing or looks good! There are far better cars for this niche. Cannot understand why Subaru now sticks two fingers up at us WRX/STI lovers and gives us this abomination? They should stick to what they know and give us an Evo X contender.

The new Subaru Impreza does not merit the affectionate "Scooby" nickname and is an utter cr*p car I would not be seen dead in. EVO now rules - regrettably!

It's very unfortunate that no one here seems to remember the original.

This is hardly nice looking under any stretch of the imagination.

the nicest thing I can say about the new Impreza is that it is characterless. No features, no presence. Bland. I'm trying not to be critical. But perhaps it can be transformed into a fire breathing monster. let's be optimistic.

Aftermarket companies will surely find a way of beefing it up.
