Well, my fears are confirmed... I checked the stats this morning and it is being used a fair bit, in fact it transfered 0.7Gb yesterday, this is costing me £9 something a day to run!

so... until it can either be funded or moved I'm afraid it's gotta go offline for a bit, sorry chaps and chapesses but I don't love you that much

btw, since the new one went online it's had 610 images uploaded !

Ah that explains it!

I thought there was something wrong at this end

I understand your reasons for turning it off. Thanks for doing it in the first place!

really sad to hear this Matt,
thanks for the service you have provided so far.

A shame that our own club doesn't have facilities to at least host a pic of your car.

thanks guys... thing is it's really easy to do, the only 'problem' is the amount of bandwidth that it uses, i.e. 610 images @ ~50k (say) * N views = muchous bandwidth!

sigh, sorry I had to turn it off guys, when I worked at C&W it wasn't a problem and I *could* put it back (i.e. the secret.lab6.com one) but I can't say how long it'll be around for, the move was intended to provide some support and put it somewhere that I know it'll be up... oh well, good intentions turned to crap!

grrrr

Thats a real shame

3 thoughts 1st Dave TS should pay for it as he obviousley must be responsible for at least 600 of those images

2nd can't there be a subsription or is this an admin nightmare?

final thought surley one of the MANY scooby companys could see this as an advertising opertunity i.e.

The Scoobysport/TSL/Graham Goode/etc Uploader
(not picking on the above just used them because they are good guys)

I would be willing to pay as I have no other way to post pics of my P&J

host another domain with say subaru in it, and offer pop3 email address on the side, say for 25 a year.. you would need no more than 50peeps or similar domain names... turbo etc..

mattski2 -

do you have details of the bandwidth used somewhere that you could mail me? You've mentioned them a little, but depending on what they are I may be able to come up with something, especially if there's scope for some advertising in there...

If you get that hosting package, I'd be willing to pay a reasonable fee for a decent e-mail address, surely with a couple of people you'd get enough cash..

Gutted

Surely the uploader should be funded by Scoobysport or someone like that, as in:

"Welcome to the Scoobymania Image Uploader"

Matt

What about reducing the permitted size of image uploaded ? Would reducing it to (say) under 100K help at all ?

guys (everyone), thanks for the support, I'm glad you've enjoyed the thing so far :-)

As for being sponsored by someone, that would be great, I don't mind getting a banner thing going, it's just a case of seeing if anyone is upto it?

Re: file size, it's already limited to 80Kb (it was 250Kb). The thing is file-size is only a small part of the problem, the real problem is due to the amount of requests, i.e.

600 x 80Kb files viewed 000's of times is a lot of data!

still open to suggestions tho....

Cool

Matt, I have a spare UNIX workstation doing absolutely nothing in my living room I used to use it for web development but I haven't touched it in months, if there is any way to get it back from germany and get it hosted i.e Mr De Banke, then you are more than welcome to have it for the cause. Let me know, It is a HPUX box with 256mg ram, only problem is it currently only has 4 gb diskspace in it. Mail me if you are interested.

It's already 80k max.
And from the stats, that wouldn't help enough!

E mail me with this @

Knowlesy@ferrari50.freeserve.co.uk

I might after some discussions be able to meet half the costs of running this, though I would need to know ad banners etc...
