No point buying a 2nd hand rad when a new will set you back £100.
Try looking in the yellow pages for radiator specialists.

If you can find a Brazer in your area it could be fixed for the price of a packet of **** and a couple of pints

Yea, then clog the rad up completely when it fails causing the engine to overheat. Good work Pete!
For someone who doesn't even know how to avoid being banned every week, you seem to have so much self belief!

I didn't mean you doing it yourself!! Granted that WOULD be a disaster as you rightly point out .......... but a good brazer who knows what he's doing will see it rignt

For £5, in 1990, I got my Radiator fixed by a decent brazer - add inflation and thats about, what? £15?

Peace of mind and £100+ richer

However, just realised, aren't lots of Rads plastic these days?

are you trying to suggest that jason was 'trying it on' with me pete? or that i am silly for not having it repaired rather than replaced.

i was told radiators are a wear and tear item (like brake pads) and are usually good for say 100-150k miles. at the time my brum brum had 120k+ miles on it, so i felt rather than have it fixed everytime a crack appears through age, replace it for said piece of mind.

jason didnt tell me the above by the way re radiator life.

Not at all - I am unaware of your particular case - I am simply saying that 'REPAIR' is an option which is worth looking into.

And as for life, well - I have never, ever, renewed a Rad as a Service Item.

If the water is changed every 2 years with fresh quality Anti-Freeze there is no reason whatsoever why the original rad cannot go to the scrapyard with the rest of the car.

Depends on where you live, how you drive etc. If you live out near the sea and you have an ally rad it will corrode like theres no tomorrow from the outside in.. If the car is driven hard the sheer amounts of heat will warp the rad causing cracks..

We all know you drive like a fanny Mr Lewis but the rest of us try to prevent the engine from dying from bordom once in a while I'm sure you will have the first Impreza to fail because its crank shaft commited suicide because it was depressed

fair enough, but things like clutches, and gearboxes etc, are not serviceable items either, but generally have a shelf life shorter than the car.

agree to disagree, but from what as i was told, by a reputable source, 100k was the norm for a radiator anyways

I would say a Clutch is a service item, maybe after about 100k miles .... but a gearbox?? Not sure about that at all - should last the life of the car given care and not abused.

possibly, but your scoob is a very rare un-modified example. even slight modifications or enthusiastic driving can bugger a clutch/gearbox, especially seeing as several specialists have said it is a chocolate gearbox on these cars.

Indeed, I too have heard all the horror stories about Chocolate Engines, Curly Wurly Geaboxes, Mars Bar MAFs, Snicker Pistons, Caramel Clutches, Toffee Crunch Turbo's, Chocolate Raisen Radiators and Twix Suspension .................... seems the Subaru Impreza is a Box of Roses

I thank my lucky stars that I have the only Subaru Impreza Turbo to roll off the production line which runs as well after 82,000 miles as it did the day I drove it off the Dealers Forecourt ....................
