i think you all ways want more lol
you get use to the power after a bit.
with mine, i run it on low boost most of the time (1bar) and every now and then when i havent got the mrs and little one in the car and want some fun, i run the high boost (1.5 bar ish)
so then it feels like a new car again :-)

I now do the same, run 1bar low boost most of the time, but when I get back in the car after the wife has used it, she has hit that demister button and were back on high boost again (1.5bar)
I had the boost swap done for her as well.
As for the answer to the question, 350hp is fast enough but it needs to come in sooner and smoother on my car.

I always compare car modding to Bodybuilders and Anorexics.
Never happy with what they have got.
I have 340 and always dream of more power.
I am happy with my biceps though.

Hmmmm !
It would depend on how it delivered that 400 bhp.
If you need a huge laggy turbo, then NO !
Dunx
P.S. Have toyed with the idea of a 50 bhp NOS kit, to keep a nice small turbo, but have the 400 bhp I think I'd like to have.... for the track obviously.

Always thought my 349 was enough, but now I'm not so sure. I'm of the persuasion that I need to learn to drive it better though, rather than just throwing more cash at getting more horses out of it.
It's not what you've got, it's how you use it that counts

I am aiming for 415/400 on my next scooby (shopping list awaiting) - I think that should be it.
I will definitely be going for two stage boost as some people have done, that way I can keep the car relatively tame most of the time and switch boost settings when I need go a bit manic.

I'm happy enough with 301 bhp ! TD04 Hybrid on a bug WRX. It's very responsive and low spooling though, so that suits all the town driving I do very well.
Maybe I'm just easy pleased !

If it's a road car then response and low lag are key to enjoying the extra power. 2 cars can have 400 but the one that has the 'get up and go' with little throttle, will feel much more fun. I'm not convinced at big turbos on 2.0ltrs to get more than 350, without losing driveability. People say you drive around it but when you cruise at 70 on the motorway and a gap opens, you don't want to wait 2 seconds to get boost or have to change down.
I think a 2.5 is what you need for effortless road work with a bigish turbo.
And 350 on the road, well it's too much! Any stretch where you can get it into the 'zone' will lose your license or scare the **** out of other road users. An overtake at 60mph will be a flick to third (in a classic) and you'll be past them doing 90 in a few seconds and probably 110 by the end of it. If someone pulls out during a convoy overtake, you'll need your wits about you to avoid rear ending them (which will be your fault).
The roads down sarf are too crowded and too heavily policed to enjoy the performance.

would love to have 400+ for a straight line, motorway drving but don't think i'll ever need much more than i've got for round the twisties driving.
very rarely i think to myself 'i needed more power coming sideways out of that roundabout'
driver training mate, that's the way to go. no point having all that power if you don't know what to do with it

I have a 20g mate but no way is it pulling that bhp. Its pulling 1.5bar to the redline. DD rr results in 303bhp at the wheels. Add 16% and that becomes approx 351bhp at the crank.
Id guess around 350, i dont/wont inflate figures for the sake of it. All the figures are just pub talk for guys with small ******. Id guess with my mods about 350 ish..
but what i do know for certain is that its nowhere near enough for a newage.

I think the question should be who wants reliable power at whatever figure your after..
I want to hit the magic 415/400 with a 2.0 block but I want the car easy to drive everyday as well, one of the things that put me off Evo's and made me want a Scooby, it's everyday character.
I doubt I will achieve the figures I am after but if I can get to 400 bhp or close enough, without compromising the drive of the car then I will be happy. If I need anything more than that, I will either need to seriously consider something with more tuning potential (like a Skyline) or dream of shoehoring in a H6 Turbo!
Mind you, there is always the possibility of piggy backing a supercharger to the turbo system...
