Default Induction kit or panel filter??????

Need a bit of advice dont know whether to go for an induction kit or a panel filter for my 98 classic UK. Is there any advantages to one or the other and is there any make that is better. Only other mod on the car is a Magnex back box but will be doing the rest of the exhaust and maybe a mild tune.

I have heard that an induction kit will damage your MAF sensor which could lead to engine damage if not noticed so i guess a panel filter would be the best option.
I have a panel filter on mine and have had no problems.

I would suggest you go for a K+N panel filter, £40 odd including delivery.
This is what I run on my STi3 Wagon at 335 bhp.
A cone will NOT add power and may reduce output. Staying with the panel ensures you are not breathing hot engine bay air.

Pannel filter, unless you have a FMIC
I went for the Green cotton pannel filter, £35 delivered off ebay

If it wasnt for the sound of the induction kit on my car when it comes on boost and the chatter when backing off id probabley drive almost sensibly, and it hasnt affected the performance either, luv it.

you will never get a straight answer on this subject..........

Why is an induction kit best used when you have a FMIC?

because its the only option when you have a fmic. the fmic pipework intrudes over where the airbox would be on the drivers side of the engine, so an induction kit is needed, for its more usuable shape

Not really sure of the answer to this one but do Scoobyclinic not offer a K&N Typhoon induction kit as part of their performance upgrade packages, without a FMIC?

Sports Panel Filter.

Where I have my Scoob serviced, they have a shed full of induction kits that were returned in fAVOUR of panel filters.

Nothing but hassleunless your running numbers over350 according to them.

Seem to know what their on about.

When I told Richard at Petch in Richmond I was going to fit an induction kit he nearly slapped me round the heed. He went and got a panel filter out of one of their cars and said "Thats a crap idea, you can have this one, if it stops you going out and wasting your money. I could sell you one, but its not worth it and the Subaru system is fkin good already. Nuff said.

I have the K&N panel filter at the moment (99 STI), but with Upgrading the turbo I will be going to an APS CAI with K&N filter, this will be in the wing so lots of cool air but unless your going over 350 stick with the panel.
