Default Hesitation under Boost, STi V3 MY96

As above, I am experiencing hesitation at 4000+ RPM, I searched in here and found the usual problems with MAF failure or dirty Boost selenoid. I have done a MAF test (by unplugging it, the engine stalled) and just cleaned the Boost selenoid and lines with brake cleaner.

What do you guys think? What else can I check? I inspected the MAF and it looks clean and shiny...

The engine is standard apart from a 4.5" jap backbox

Your opinions would be greatly appreciated

cheers

Had this problem myself not very long ago, i found one of the pipes from under the filter trunking had split and come away, resolved this problem, changed fuel from bp ultimate back to shell v-power and all is o.k now. Had various replies from clutch slip to maf failure, but may be worth having a good look under the bonnet.

Had the similar problem a few weeks ago, car felt like it had no boost and it was running on 3 cylinders was using bp ultimate at the time. Cleaned out the MAF and the BOOST SOLENOID, stopped using bp ultimate moved over to esso super unleaded and done an ECU RESET. Problem cleared up nearly straight away, well a full tank of fuel.

Not really, just take them out & have a good look to see if they're breaking down or have hair line cracks ...it'll be pretty obvious if they're on there way out ...but be careful putting them back, they'll be brittle if they're quite old

when mine went, under full load & over 4K it felt like i was getting a misfire for a split second (pottering around & it was fine) & like you i checked the MAF & cleaned the boost solenoid, i found it was one of the packs by accident ...i was actually trying to check the plugs (suspicions raised by the misfire being worse when the weather was 'damp')
