Default New STi looks to have that full on wrc look.

.....big blistering fenders, wrc style front bumper as well as a quad exhaust.
A pretty much unhidden testing of the new 08 STI at the Nurburgring.

It still looks garbage to me, the arches are not really flared as much as the rally version and the front end looks soft and still looks like a cheap korean type car that has a bonnet scoop

Looks like a cross between a BMW 1 series (one of the ugliest cars ever made) and a Ford Focus with a scoop and some other tacky bits of plastic stuck on to it. No Impreza can ever be described as beautiful, but they have presence whereas that just screams blandness form every corner. Just horrible.

Subaru? Go on............it's a Rover 25 with a bonnet scoop isnn't it?

The thing that worries me is.......well to Bugeye was ugly, but could be made to look something like by removing those horrid ford Scorpio lights and putting STi or Morette ones on.

WHAT can anyone do with the nasty bland SHAPE of the 2008 model?

Wait till it's seen in the flesh i bet it'll be the nuts, compare that to the new Evo and i'd be choosing the STi everytime, even if it is a hatchback

Got to be honest - the top pic is the first time i have thought it looks ok - the rear lights have to go though.

Agree from the rear it is a bit of a moose, doesn't look like the rear track is wide enough

Doesn't lOOk too bad to me, i'm awaiting to see the real thing, from all angles.

Ride height lOOks good on that pic (although i know he's cornering)

Hoping that that rear WRC spoiler is an optional extra.

I think there's been a definite shift from "god it's so ugly" and "that's me over with Imprezas", to "it's growing on me" and "not too bad really".

I personally think that if the STI drives a well as its predecessors, then Subaru will still sell plenty of them. The hatchback may even give them a whole new bunch of buyers.......family people that would like the performance and handling of the current STI, but who need 5 doors and a bit of extra practicality.

If the STI ended up looking like the pics or the WRC car that have been circulating, then it will be sweeeet!

Still not keen on the back end though!!

I have read lots of these comments on SN, but the one question thats not asked "How much will it cost" It's fair to say IMO that if it's cheap we would all buy it. On the other hand if what my dealer has implied, is anything to go by, 28 to 30K. For that kind of cash, if it fails in the looks department, then by god it better kick some **** on the big money front. For that kind of money we are getting into some major metel. This needs to have the ability to hand a 50K car a good kicking, or failing that enough of a scare to make them think they wasted 20K.

Just my two peneth worth.

Its Pump, there are to many established cars in the hatchback sector and trying to temp them away will take something that looks a lot better than that IMO, also the point made on the price is spot on, who is going to spend 25-26k and then another 1-2k on PPP, total of 30k.there are some cracking cars on the market for that money.

Subaru's big selling point was a super quick 5 door saloon,IMO

Yeah, we really want Mr 2.4 driving in Subarus crashing the damn thing 'cos they just changed up from a Megane.

I find it so frustrating and annoying that Subaru seems to repeatedly fall short in designing a good looking car to match their mechanicals. There comes a time when even value for money has to be cast aside because of hideous or bland looks. I think that this time, Subaru will definitely loose out big time to the new EVO X. I love my blob eye, but I think a good classic looks better

There were rumours to the fact WRC and the STi will look like each other

a few points I've noticed

1) 08WRX Pictures weren't good
2) Loved the EVO X concept Pictures
3) Seen Video of EVO X didn't look anywhere as nice
4) The 08WRX looked better in the Flesh
5) The Sti will look much better than the WRX

I have driven a 08WRX at the end of the Day handling, performance and costs will be the deciding factors, I've never bought any of mine for it's looks

I don't think it looks too bad, with some flared arches it would look very aggressive.

It's a different animal now, and thats probably going to part of the appeal but I am dreading the kind of people it will be aimed at, as I fear they will not appreciate the heritage the brand has (especially with influence of the late Colin McCrae).

That image looks photoshopped to me but if thats how it will look then I could be won over... but I will probably have got a JDM hawkeye or an RS4 by then!

I think i'm right in saying the new hatch back has been a big hit in the showrooms in Japan...which has been encouraging for Subaru.
No Impreza can ever be said to be pretty, but things move on and my Classic is now looking rather dated as is the bug eye. Fact is folk want hatchbacks and not saloons.

Seat, BMW, Focus, Citroen, Rover ...any other pants car's that they have grouped it with now then. It's poor!! I hope that the change brings them more success in the WRC as i doubt it will increase sales.

That photo has been photoshop chopped.. but would look good if it came out similar to that. Front of the car is still too busy, hopefully someone will come out with a decent kit to transform the crap looks.
