Does anyone have any suggestions of how to get some decent in-car footage from my Sony PC5 at the Donington track day.

Its pretty small, but I cannot figure out the best way to mount it.

Anyone used a video camera in-car on a track before?

Funnily enough I've been trying this out at home (going on a track day next week before you ask !)

I have the tripod mounted in the car as we speak, I will post some pictures shortly.

Puff's method works really well.
Totally stable, vibration free pics.

Cool

Docjock

Does the tripod not kinda hit your arm when your changing gears ?

I have put the tripod in the back with two legs in the footwells (cable tied onto the little metal bars that hold the rear seat in), with the third leg actually on the back seat and held in with the lap belt.

Puffs way sounds as good, and easier to remove.

Can't take pics, too dark.

I got some great footage from Donnington a few weeks back using a camcorder suction mount.

Cool

I got some in-car footage from Chucks car at Donno last time, all you need is a tripod (Jessops sell them for about 15-20 quid) and two bits of bungee about 2 foot long.

I mounted the tripod with two of the legs on the back seat and the other on the central 'bit' (?) just behind the ashtray.

The first bungee will hook under the one of the loops that hold the rear seat in place in the rear footwell, pass the bungee round the back of the central stem of the tripod and down to the other loop.
The other bit of bungee, hook through the loop holding the rear seat belt catch, pass it round the front of the tripod stem and down to the other seat belt catch loop.

I did this and despite Chucks best efforts the camera stayed put and gave excellent results. Best thing is it takes seconds to set it up.
The camera is in the back so doesn't get in the way at all, neither does it block your rear vision.
