My 2007 Impreza makes a slight 'rushing' or 'hissing' noise from behind the dash when the aircon compressor is running and the engine is turning at around 2000-3000rpm. It seems that is must be caused by the aircon refrigerant flowing through the aircon evaporator behind the dash. Has anyone else experienced this noise?
I am reluctant to take it to the dealer if its not a 'real' fault - the aircon works really well, and I don't want them to mess with it unless its absolutely necessary.

Thanks guys. Seems its not a problem then. Never had it on my other cars - always silent (not Subarus BTW). I had a nightmare vision of the dealer pulling the dash out of my new car to get at the aircon evaporator.....

iirc it's to do with the auto climate control (sunlight sensor on top of dash etc..) adjusting the AC to the conditions. Should only do it in auto BTW..

No, its not fan noise I'm talking about. Its a noise coming from the aircon system itself, like a hissing noise that comes and goes, from right at the back of the dash. I think the noise is generated by the flow of aircon refrigerant in the the aircon pipes.

MY07 STi does this as well mate, nothing to worry about.
