'Headers' is an americanism, which people seem to copy without knowing why. Manifold/manifolds is the correct English term. It is likely that this came about due to the Japanese using so-called American-English terms, which people here have copied, for example: 'HKS headers'.

Its just because when people started looking for aftermarket exhaust manifolds for Subarus the most common and cheapest option was to import from the states.

As above they are known as headers in the US and that was the name used for numerous group buys from places like GruppeS.

Its just kind-off stuck around as a name and got passed on as such........

There is no conspiracy, much to some peoples dismay

I've started calling them headers since I now have a car with an American engine.

But in Blighty learned mechanics and automotive engineer shall continue to call them manifolds - as by definition it is a more accurate description. Header could be anything from a tank to a heading on the next invoice I print off.
