Question STi 05PPP STALLING AT JUNCTIONS

Hi Guys,

I have been told that an intermitent fault/code may not be logged into ECU but can be logged into PS13 or PC's logged into daignostic Port while running. is this True ??

My mates STi 05PPP intermitently stalls when pulling up at Junctions, it has been to Dealer 3 times and still does it. They have put the Subaru diagnostics on it always shows no faults.

BTW the car was doing it prior and after PPP was fitted.

Not sure if this is similar, but my 05 WRX used to 'almost' die (revs would just drop) after pulling up at junctions etc.

After some searching and picking of brains on here, I removed the idle control valve and cleaned it with brake cleaner. Hey presto, not more issues..!

The only thing is I'm not sure it would actually stall if the ICV was sticking, might be wrong though..?

Hi there,

My MY05 STIppp started to stall but after it had a remap. They guy said ok this can happen and took a 5 minute job it seemed. If I'm not mistaken, it was the timing which was no big issue. I hope this might help.

Right Spoke to Ian at Power Engineering and he said that he could only adjust my car as he had full Access to change things on my ECU and it's had the ECUTEK remap. If the car has a fault without the Remap then they can't adjust things on the ECU and that there is a problem within the car (Yeah obviously) Sorry that ain't much help.

Maybe get a remap?

Sorry,

Alex

2 of my 205GTIs did this at times. Gentle squirt of WD40 into the MAF housing always did the trick.

You never know

I used Isopropanol (sp?) to clean the maf's on my VAG cars, very effective just give it plenty of time to dry properly

Does he have the standard BOV fitted? Many aftermarket ones can cause stalling.

Otherwise check for air leaks in inlet system from MAF back to head.

Finally if possible swap MAF.

IMHO it's unlikely to be the MAF on an 05 car..!

Does anyone know if a sticking idle control valve can actually cause a stall..? Mine just dropped, almost stalling, but never did.

Tony, PM me if you need a pic of ICV location..

Mine does the same sometimes, usually whens its really hot and the cooling fan comes on... it kinda goes into a wanting to stall thing, but stops itself before it happens. Mine is also completely standard with the exception of the STi Panel Filter and Zero Sports intake pipe... done it before the mods and after... other than that its in perfect running order though. (if anything, slightly rich due to std map)

I have even had it stall a couple of times, but to be honest having spoken to most performance car owners.... they almost all do it at some point. Mate with an Evo 8 and a 380BHP Bob Rawle remap does it sometimes on really hot days. I think we can all safely say its nothing to do with the map aswell, because Bob has made his car nothing short of awesome...

I think its just a fact of life with a turbo car, as they get hot they cant compress the air anywhere near as well and get a bit lumpy.

Then you know more than me mate... im jus saying what mine does, and what i have seen / heard others cars do. It isnt something unique to Subaru's... thats for sure, and having asked an Impreza specialist they said its normal if its hot and under load (like the cooling fan being on / aircon etc..)

No mate, but it picks the revs up when the aircon clutch engages... and idles at 650-700RPM instead of the 500RPM when its disengaged.

My GTO used to suffer this and it was the DV. Replaced it and all was fine again.
Might be worth a look?
Cheers

Before i changed the standard panel filter for the STi panel filter it was 600-650RPM idle.

With the STi panel filter it is 500RPM. Sits quite happy at 500RPM until it gets really hot... and the cooling fan comes on.

Sorry my post never meant i disbeleived you and Truelly appologise if it seem that way.

It's just my experiences are just the opposite to yours. Between me and my mates we've owned 40+ different scoobs and stalling has never been an issue with any of them, Perhaps we've just been lucky till now

The revs do pickup on when Power Steering and A/C loads up

Hmmm, not as uncommon as I was expecting. I just had a PPP 3 installed, 05 US WRX wagon, 43K miles. Now it intermittently stalls when I depress the clutch and brake for a traffic light. NEVER did this before the PPP. Only does it when the engine is warm. If is reset the ECU all is well for about a two commutes. Then back to its new tricks. Funny thing is if I am on the highway and disengage the clutch, revs drop to idle nicely, dies only in traffic. I will clean the idle control valve.

Mine just started doing this, after a week on inactivity and completely flat battery.

Never done it before, wouldn't hold revs and would cut out sometimes if i didn't catch it with throttle.

Have been out twice since, to check. Whilst it didn't cut out on those journeys, the idle seems to have dropped (no A/C on, scotland! ) too low and hunts.

(Cars also hesitating too )

Anyway, in for a reflash next week, so that should sort it (i hope).
