P1 Pipe louder than I expected, swap for prodrive anyone? doh!
I've fitted a MY01 P1 back box to my scoob, A few people said it wouldnt make much of a difference over the 2006 STi one I had fitted, well bugger me its pretty damn loud with my front decat! The box its self is in excellent condition and the baffles are still in one piece.. Its not offensively loud but its a HUGE difference over the STi pipe and its going to drive my neighbours up the wall!
Now I've heard a few people saying the regular Prodrive pipe isnt particularly loud but does offer a nice noise... Is there anyone out there who likes noise and would be interested in swapping a P1 pipe for a classic Prodrive one?

When a neighbour had PPP fitted to his WRX wagon (Blobeye 2004) it made it noticeably louder. In fact, it made it noticeable full-stop. I knew when he was putting his car away because of the rumble it made going past my house.
Having written that, I think my P1 with P1 BB is probably as loud if not slightly louder.

Prodrive did an upgrade box, that was louder and freeer flowing than the 'standard' P1 box.
IF that is what you have there was a guy on Pistonheads looking for one.
Personally, I always thought the the P1 had a rebadged STI exhaust. But I might have dreamt that when I was pi44ed.
Perhaps Mike Wood (of Prodrive) can answer your questions better if you PM him!

Its got a MUCH bigger inlet pipe than the STi box I've got and its straight through; i can drop a coin in the inlet and it falls straight out the tail pipe

Yup, that's the "P1 backbox - £350 kerching" option. Rather than the STI branded backbox that can be seen on P1's, STI 5/6 etc.
It is a rather fullsome sound, isn't it. On hot days and after a run, it's even louder, due apparently to the wadding in the backbox going floppy in the heat.
I have a standard STI one that's going on soon as I want to tame mine down a bit.

I would be very willing to buy the P1 backbox off you and pay postage. I have the standard STI labelled box, of course I'd swop, it has done 50,000 miles, no problesm but probably needs a damn good polish.
I was referred by a very nice chap on pistonheads.
Cheers

The STI pipe I have is from a 5 type R. It's pretty weedy really, compared to the P1 box. The pipework has almost hexagon sections on the bends, rather than being a smooth even radius/thickness that the P1 box has. The exit has quiet a small bore which increases to maybe 2 3/4 or 3 inches.
If anything, I'm now intrigued as to how well the newer STI boxes would fit/go/sound.

I had a Prodrive BB put on my wagon last year - just had the standard twinpipe before then. I was actually pretty shocked at how loud is was/is, I was expecting something a lot more suble.
Still tempted to swap it for a quieter box.
