Not getting nicked for speeding?

I heard an interesting theory from a guy at work yesterday.
You are out "enjoying your cars performance" but not past schools etc. Plod appears in your rear view mirror....unmarked car because you would have spotted a battenburg ages ago.
You act pi55ed, Plod decides to try to get you for drink driving.
You pass the breath test.
He has to let you off any speeding offence because it was not the original suspected offence he pulled you for and they're not allowed to change tack 1/2 way through.
Does this hold water or is it just wishful thinking?
Is it worth keeping a few empty Stella cans in the car?

Total bollocks I'm afraid.. how are you going to act pissed?.. driving without due care & attention?.. the police can charge you with whatever they want.. and if that means inspecting the car from top to bottom that is what they can do!\
My advice for those with plod in rear view mirror.. slow down, be sensible, and give them no reason to pull you in the first place.

Its half true. Once they charge you they cannot charge you with something different if the first one fails. In the case above I would imagine you would be facing a number of charges from the word go.

If you are stopped for "enjoying your cars performance" i.e speeding, you will be breathlysed anyway. Most, if not all forces policy is to breath test:
1. After committing a moving traffic offence
2. On suspicion of taking alcohol
3. After an RTA
So yeah you're talking/thinking Bollox

I imagine, if you had been stopped for a speeding, but had swilled your mouth with whiskey before getting out, you might fail the roadside breathtest. You would then be arrested and taken to the station. Hopefully, you pass on the machine at the station. If you're lucky, the Police give you a lift back to your car and don't charge you with something else (wasting Police time etc). Sounds like a lot of risk and palaver to avoid 3 points and a fine. You never know, they might have intended to just give you a warning until they smelt the alcohol...

I find the last post hard to believe if the officers actually saw the gear. You can't prove anything with just money, but you only need a small amount of drugs to be able to arrest for possession.
