off topic - Colin Macrae Rally 2 (PC) out on Friday

To anyone who hasn't played it already (PSX version came out a while back) its very good.
Car gradually falls to pieces when you hit stuff, which effects performance etc, which, if you have enough time on the clock, needs repairing in-between stages.
Thankfully you're not forced to drive the Ford Focus - there's Imprezza WRCs and other stuff too.
Ask you girlfriend to make your sack bulge with it this Christmas.

It arrived yesterday, but working from home so I really couldn't try it out. (Honest)
I understand that it is very different from CMR, with corners called differently (in fact the opposite way round.
Looking forward to wasting some time over the weekend.

Hi XRS
I'd be very interested in your impressions, especially if you can compare it to the TOCA2 game engine (which I guess CMR2 is an enhancement of?) when running a decent set-up.
I was a bit dissapointed with CMR, but I was used to TOCA2 by then! If CMR2 has the seat-of-the-pants *reality* of TOCA2 it'll be a winner!
Thanks
Richard

I have it on good authority that the corners are called in the gear you should be in, not the severity of the bend. Does anyone know if Colin and Nicky use this approach or is it simply for gaming purposes? If they do, I guess they've changed their approach since CMR1.

Nick does call the bend with relation to the gear Colin should be in. This is further marked by adding + - or slow.

Dowser,
I have only spent a little time on it so far, but I guess it does compare with the TOCA2 handling - i.e. it is a little twitchier than the original CMR. I am running it on an Athlon 750 with Goeoforce 2 GTS, at 1280x1028x16 and it is pretty smoothe, although there are a few odd shapes flying around from time to time. On my sons PIII 550 with Viper 770 Ultra and 1164*860*16 (I think) it stuttered on occasions.
I must say I found it a little easy, winning my first championship event (and gaining the first cheat) at my first attempt, but I'll see how it goes as I progress.
