Depends if you want a newer car with warranty or an older car with more power. 14k should get you a very low mileage 2.0 WRX (£200 road tax) and maybe change to do some choice mods. Or a nice 'older' STi - but I think more mileage and definately less warranty.

It's Prodrive AKA PPP ... takes a UK STi from 265bhp to 300+ bhp or the WRX from 215ish to 265ish.

Getting it Private GET it HPI checked.

Check engine and chassis numbers match

Take a mate who keep you sensble.

Service history it's a MUST, we even keep the reciepts of the Airfreshers we buy

You'll spot the enthusiast and the boy racer, perhaps

Buy the Car with your brain and not you ***** After a test drive wilst your still dribling you will hand over the Cash and totally forget to do checks.

As said get a JDM model it is better Spec as STD compared to UK cars

UK cars you get 3 years warranty and subaru recovery from new but this can be extended, (very expensive) you will normally get 12 months from a Subaru dealership or what remains off from previous owner.

newage Engines are quite robust but if one blows a possible £4K repair bill.

go a year older to get the STi over the WRX

The MY05 onwards are better models than the MY01-MY04 STi's

MY01-MY04 STi's mainly cosmetic changes through those years. Maybe better to consider milage more than age if you aim for an older MY01-MY04 car

UK cars it's far better with PPP (Prodrive Performance Pack) it should have a certificate also look for Prodrive wheels or Prodrive Springs.

If out of warranty lots of repected places like Powerstaion, TSL, RCM etc etc do powerpacks like "PPP" or Remaps by Bob Rawle or Andy Forest.

so best to ask First

IMHO

Tony

Some homework I've carried out for you:
Buy a used SUBARU IMPREZA - Auto Trader UK

Hope that link works if not go to autotrader website select options, age up to 5 years, max £20k, max 40,000 miles and also (most important bit) type in 'jdm' in the more options part. I think you may have to register for that.

If you can stretch to it a MY05 is best, if not then MY03-04 will more than keep you smiling.

Good luck

Sti every time, if you buy the wrx, every time you see an sti you will think if only i had got one of those? the sti with ppp is a fantastic car that will always put a smile on your face, you will not believe how much grip they have and how quick they are.
