Been using the site for a few months now, and have to say I've got addicted. Found out so much useful stuff from a knowlegable bunch.
So I've been wondering
1. How did Scoobynet get started?
2. Where does it live (in somebody's bedroom)
3. I think Simon De B owns its - is it a full time job, or not?
4. How much time do the moderators spend reading the board - and do they have to keep upto date all the time?
Just curious

Yes and my company offered to host the BBS for free, and was simply refused!!
I'm very interested to understand how it works.
Cheers Phill C
PS I Know how much effort the moderators must put in!!! They msu do most of them are connected with a 56K modem

Nige, it works because of Simon de Banke. End of story.
I know Simon quite well. I've always admired him for what he's done with ScoobyNet, but have you ever been out in a car with him? Jeez, I'm lost for words.
Simon is full of fantastic new ideas to make this place even better. Expand your mind. Then multiply it by ten. This is just the start.
But Simon has only one pair of hands and there are only 24hrs in a day. If you feel you can help in any way, drop him a mail. It's volunteer work, but immensely satisfying if you can spare the time.
This is the best Subaru site in the world. I'm proud to be a member. It ought to be sponsored by Subaru UK (akka IM) but they lack the vision.
Guess it's down to us lot then.
Best,
Richard.

Agree totally.
Simon brought the BBS which was dying, back to life. Its thanks to him we have what we have today. Although we do put a load of work in between us, its not a chore (for me at least ).

Chelle, Richard and Si are in a small back bedroom somewhere taking turns on a big hamster wheel to make enough power for scoobynet to work. Duh, I thought everyone knew that!

Question is then: what are the other 2 doing while the 3rd is turning the wheel eh ?
Agree with Hoppy on the hamburger munching weirdo that runs this place
But I still think the starters of this BBS also deserve a lot of credit for it.

I'm addicted too, and indebted to SDB and the rest of the gang for scoobynet, it is my one stop scooby resource, I'd never have got a scooby if it was not for you lot.
Think some of us might need an SA (Scoobynetters Annoymous)
"Hello, my name is Markus and I'm a scoobynetter"

Hi Guys
Thank you very much indeed for the nice comments. I really do appreciate it.
This community would not have been possible without Phil Daws who set it up originally, and could not happen now without the moderators, to all of whom I will be forever grateful.
It is staggering just how much time and money it takes to run scoobynet, but the financial side is covered by the advertising and at least a third of the time it would take to run is handled by the moderators.
The rest of the work takes the forms of accounts, solicitors, dealing with the 150 - 200 emails we receive a day, technical support, general server issues, etc, etc, etc and particularly reading all of the requests / comments on here.
I took it on originally because it was the main reason I bought my second scoob (after I'd had a brief fling with a Lotus Esprit!) and couldn't bare to see it die.
Since then (about 15 months ago) it has grown in traffic by over ten times and we've signed up about 7,500 of our 10,000 members.
As hoppy said, there are some fabulous things on the horizon, but I haven't had much spare time in the last 15 months!
Thanks to everyone that makes this site possible. The moderators, the advertisers and particularly the members
All the best
Simon
