How qualified are Subaru Dealer mechanics?
Took my car in for a 40,000 service, only use my car at weekends - I have just come to check my dipstick and the oil level was WAY too much, its that much that its past the maximum indicator by about 2cms on the dipstick!!
Has anyone else experienced this?
Whats the worse outcome in having too much oil in your engine?

Either drain a bit out or take it back and get the dealer to do it, they probably put a trainee on it, must be a bit of a dope though if he didnt check the level.

that's a ******* joke mate!! I would assume too much oil will cause a hell of a lot of pressure in the engine, you need to drain it off pronto, or take it back to the "know it alls". it makes you p1ss doesn't it!!

Had this with my monaro a couple 2 weeks ago at the "monaro appointed dealer"....1 litre too much oil!
Christ, how hard is it to fill up an engine with the right amount of oil? Did they ever bother looking at the dipstick?
Seeing its a one hour round trip to the dealers and they undercharged me for the work (admin seem to be worse than the mechanics ), I dropped out the excess oil into a container to keep for the lawn mower (even if Synthetic oil in a mower is a bit OTT ).
I also checked the engine breathers to make sure no oil had gone back into the inlet tract. As generally what happens is the counterweights on the cranshaft tend to drag the oil out the sump ,creating an excess amount of oil mist in the crankcase...that ends up going into the engine breathers which connect to the inlet tract, and thus oil gets sucked into the combustion chambers. Not so bad with petrols....but it can cause a diesel engine to self destruct!
Obviously, as the pipework for the boost solonoid, pressure sensor and turbo actuator all Tees off the inlet tract, oil presence can end up with it getting in there, causing the well documented problems with boost problems/fuel cuts on Imprezas. Requiring all the boost control pipework to be flushed out with brake/carburettor cleaner.

Called them back this afternoon and they took my details and was told that I would receive a call, but no reply as yet.
You Scooby owners will have to think twice about taking your car to the garage as I did.... Its Robinsons in Rochdale by the way!
I am not afraid to name and shame, if they did a proper job in the first place then this post would not be necessary.

Are you talking about a spec C (from your username)? If so, I wouldn't let a UK dealer within a mile of it. My experiences with UK dealers was one of the reasons I went down the JDM route. Specialists live a die by their reputation not their franchise brand.

don't tar them all with the same brush it's not fair to the dealers who do do a good job.
plus now you have named and shamed, robinsons might get a bit upset about this thread there has been talk within the dealer network recently about sites like this and sidc and the damage they cause, wouldn't be surprised if they did something about it.

Chances are they will have done something wrong in the first place (like above) and while i'm all for giving them a chance to rectify problems before posting up comments if they don't then post away!
If anything scoobynet and SIDC should be congratulated as without them customer service would get a lot worse and there is nothing of consequence that main dealers can do about them

i'd never go to a dealer again
from new the 1st 100 mile one was ok but the 2nd they put to much oil in and the 3rd they spilt it all over the engine, didnt clean it up or tell me and the day after i was going to the south west motor show, when the engine warmed up i had all the oil burning off smoke everyware. i think the put trainees on oil changeing etc...

I agree with all you guys that not all subaru dealer mechanics are bad. But if a trainee is working on a customer's car they should be well supervised and every job would be checked, plus if it wasn't for us subaru drivers who buy there cars am sure subaru wouldn't be as successful as they are.
Since I have not had a response from them, I am just going to change it myself - £135 of wasted money.
Yep spec-cie my subaru is a spec c but it should not differ that much from the type-uks even for an oil and filter change.

Agree with the 'don't tar them all' line but who cares if they get upset by this and other forums?

My Dealer has closed down so I can talk about them
But what they did has already been spoken about on here anyway
They fitted my Suspension top caps on upside down, took them two days to figure out what was wrong, plus they sheared off two of the topmount studs, and replaced them with std bolts

yes i work for a main dealer and im only saying about what i have heard through different sources that both said the same thing, i don't know a thing about legal stuff so don't have a go at me. the dealers though are getting really pi$$ed off and claim that it is damaging their businesses, yes sometimes mistakes are made people are human but when remarks start to do real damage they think it's time something was done about it.

This could be a mistake by the person who changed the oil as the car is a jdm spec c and will have the equal length headers the sump is smaller than the uk cars,so they may have just put in the amount that a uk car needs.
But as you say not dipping the oil after is bad on there part take it back and complain.
