Default remap??

Hi my 1999 STI Type-R was rolling roaded at 311 bhp, the only mods are a Jamspeed 3" decat, 3-4" zorst and pannel filter, it has had no remap since it was in this country 4 years ago,
311 seems a lot of extra power just from an exhaust and pannel filter.

Would i bennifit from a remap, now i have been told i should remap it because of the decat, and if i did remap it, which i proberly will, what kind of power increase would i get?

Your car has a map designed for 100ron petrol. It is quite fierce to start off with.

Its not unheared for decatted and filtered STi 5/6's to get 320bhp, when running octane booster to up the fuel.

Your car has effectively the same engine/turbo/map as a P1, but with a lower knock sensitivity (which retards the ignition). A remap session will normally start by overlaying a P1 map on your ecu and then tailoring it for your car. (ignition and boost advance)

You can expect the same 320bhp peak power, but a better spread and more torque (mostly due to the boost increase/offsetting the reduced ignition advance).

No huge increase in numbers, but a remap will allow you to feel a bit safer about pump fuel.

So would it be an idea to map it for 97ron fuel? or which ever the highest we can get over here? after all i dont wanna dammage the engine by using a lower ron fuel.

It is a good idea to get a remap done thn, yea?

Main reason to remap it is for more peace of mind and to improve the driveability.

A proper remap will bring the turbo in earlier, boost a bit harder and try to keep everything together when fed with our best 97 octane fuel.

311 from those mods that not bad at all. I got 269 from a panel filter and 3-4 exhaust, but standard cat down pipe.

Are you sure its not got some other toys hidden somewhere? Different chip, turbo, headers or something else??

My old 2001 Bugeye JDM STI was totally de-catted, 3" pipe K&N induction kit
and made, from memory about 328BHP.

Paid Powerstation £600 for a re-map and it made 332. Had A walbra pump put on at same time.

Was initially unhappy with the power figures but fekin el did it drive alot better and smoother. Pulled harder too. I presume they can map a car to a certain ron fuel as he asked what ron i wanted it mapped at, only get 97 where i am so thats what it got.

However, i do question if you uprate the fuel pump, decat just the down pipe (leave mid cat in) and add a panel filter,do you really need an expensive map All about trusting the mapper and the people in the suppose.

Decatting late classics and new age JDM STI's is unless you want problems
Can cause det and engine degridation, best to remap if its been done to be on the safe side

Tony

PS, JDM STi's dont have a centre cat, just the one in the downpipe

I think that is a wise choice, Phil.

attaching various monitoring equipment to the car (monitor fuelling, det, ecu), plugging a laptop in, then driving the car about whilst the map is altered to match the setup and extract safe power and more throttle response etc from it.

Time - about 2 to 4hours depending on individual car

Money - £650 for an Ecutek remap

Prep Work - ensure the tank has the fuel in it you intend running it on.. it would be remapped to what is currently in the tank. Be that 97ron as you mentioned. Check the oil level, replace anything service wise that is due, add any additional mods you fancy beforehand.

Just have the car in the spec you're gonna normally run it at, then it will be mapped for that. That includes using the same fuel you usually would etc..

Also how will it affect the engine aafter its maped to 97 but, put 99 or the new 102 in?

try and do two tanks of 97ron before it is mapped ideally.

higher ron will make it safer after mapped.
