Any news yet from SDB at Croft ?

Is it snowing or bone dry ? Did the car pass scrutineering OK ? Did his co-pilot get the Mag light for the evening stage ? Or is he just doing a 4 wheel drift in a circle round the service area and can't he stop ?

Just had a call from simon.
After 3 stages they are lying 17th overall and first in class.
They took 8 seconds out of the class leader on stage 3 to be joint first in class.
Weather, the surface is bone dry.
They have no chance of a top 10 unless carnage prevails but to be first in class in that cossie is real good going!
Another 8 stages to go, i'll keep you informed.

3 stages to go.
Simon is now lying 19th overall but leading his class by 17 seconds. there is only 5 seconds between 20th and 15th.
They had a spin on the 4th stage and dropped to 2nd in class by 3 seconds. Next stage made that back up again. The last stage they were equal but the guy they tied has just bust his gearbox and retired.
Plan is to cruise a little to try and get the shed to the finish first in class. The last two stages are in the dark and they have no spot lights.
They have melted a couple of pipes a little so have hashed up a heat shield out of a coke can. I feel so proud. LOL
Hopefully update you after the next stage.

No worries chelle.
The last stage of the day has just been cancelled and they have just had a good run through stage 6. No times yet but highly likely they are still leading the class.
One stage to go (in the dark).

OK, they took another 8 seconds out of 2nd in class so lead by 25 seconds in class.
they are 17th overall.
One stage to go. Si says he is going to cruise it. I told him to keep the foot in more than just cruising as it's easy to lose that time with a late puncture in the stage. He is going to be careful but not too much off the pace.

hey, they work!
Taken years of rallying to get that kind of bodge down to a fine art! Good to see it rubbing off.
They completed the final stage OK. Waiting for the times now.

A great day out, and congrat to Simon and Peter.
Had to leave mid afternoon as it was absolutely baltic, and I lost all feeling in my feet and hands
Managed to get a few photos and some video.
Photos below, video to follow.

That is a brilliant result IMHO
Well done Simon ! Doing the WR bit was one thing, but entering cold into a rally, and then get this far is a mark of real talent I think.
Good pics Andy.

Well done Simon and co., excelent work!
I popped along, just stayed for the morning, chuffing cold and have other engagements I saw the car in the stage, in the service area, never saw deBonkers though oh well, next time I guess
Anyone see the Escort cossie crash into the.....funny looking fibreglass thingy car? It was on the split near the garages, in my mind the most stupid, ill thought out piece of planning I've ever seen, cars pulling off round a 180 hairpin on the same lane where other cars are doing 70/80? mph, it was stupid.

LOL
Thanks guys. It was a bloody good day. Thanks to everyone who came to the service area to say hi, and everyone else from scoobynet that was there for your support.
The car was a real suprise as none of us were that confident of it even completing a stage let alone the whole rally
We could have been a lot faster if we had tyres that were meant for temperatures below 100 degrees as we didn't get any heat into them all day and they still look exactly the same as they did at the start of the day!!! LOL
But it was great fun and it's always nice to be competitive, especially as it was tarmac which has never been my forte.
It was a great shame that car 15 retired as they were only 2 seconds behind us with 3 stages to go. But they walked up to us and said "Hi guys! how's you car goin? any problems?" we said, "No, sorry chaps, she's running like a dream!!" so they decided to retire as they lost 2nd gear pulling away from the finish control and wouldn't be able to keep up so didn't want to risk doing more damage.
It has to be said they were great sports (which is a testiment to rallying) and said "go on lads! hope you do it!", etc.
The last stage in the dark was erm.. interesting The service guys told us that they could see all these huge glows running round the stage and then coming at them and blinding them. Then after a few of them had gone through these two dim yellow blobs appeared and scurried past making lots of noise! LOL
Peter Silberberg who was co-driving for me said "80 tight chicane left right".. and as we were doing around 90 MPH towards a curtain of blackness, I said "are you sure!!", he said "Your guess is as good as mine son!".
We ended the day 1st in class and 16th overall.
Thanks to John for keeping everyone up to date and for the advice and also for the help with the restrictor.
Huge thanks to Tyres Northampton for doing a wonderful job with the car and providing support on the day. And to Peter for sitting next to me, Rean for towing the trailer, and Mark, Tim and Joe the silent heros of the service area
All the best
Simon

PS
I would also like to say a big thank you to sammyh for making a fabulous selection of stickers for the car at the last minute. Unfortunately due to the desperate rush we had with the restrictor, we ran out of time and couldn't put them on, but they will be going on next week in preparation for the next event.
THANK YOU SAM!
