Not for me they did.

Perhaps it depends on your postcode?

Been said before, but Tesco's are really good, and Direct Line are good if you are over 25 and have insured with them before. In addition, if you have zero no-claims, they offer two years' at teh end of your first year. Both Tesco's and D/L want a tracker.

Must be the post code (would of thought down south was more likely than Scotland though), but they insisted I have a tracker.

Any of you guys recently get insured with them? Perhaps it's a new rule they have (I spoke to them 2 months ago).

I took my policy out in June this year with Privilege. Didn't require one but no extra discount if you did have one.

Privilege service is not bad, for an insurance co, depends a lot who you speak to. Their regular joe's are pretty daft, then when I had to make a claim, you call a different number and speak to the people who actually register on the IQ scale - I nearly fell off my seat Wish I could speak to those guys whenever I have a problem, change, etc...

Shame their website doesn't work for Mac users eh.

When I recently renewed Greenlight were the cheapest >

AND they're nice guys that really know their stuff. When I first called for a quote I ended up speaking to the guy for half an hour about modifications and our cars generally. My kind of insurance company.

the guy i spoke to said that they used to require it but not anymore. that was fairly recently. maybe it depends on year/value of car and area?

We're both with Greenlight (myself and girlie) and always found them good to deal with. Unfortuantely they don't insure imports though so looks like I'll be looking around in the new year.

Neph: Respect for the user name :-)

Keep the faith.

Cool

Dave,

<further off topic>

Looking forward to it (the album), won't hold my breath though!
Caught any of the Last Rites stuff?

Perhaps my next Scoob should be black and covered in flour

</further off topic>

Ken

(suspecting lots of people are scratching their heads following the flour comment...)

Greenlight didn't mention trackers at all. I must admit, when I insured my car a month ago I didn't even consider going to one of the "large players" like Priv. I guess the quesiton is, has anyone done a price comparison vs. Greenlight? I just can't believe you can find anything cheaper and indeed better customer service than GLight. But then I might be proved wrong :d

Exclamation

when getting the quotes make sure you keep an eye on the excess amounts. I was insured with DL and their premium was OK but the excess jumped up to £800 for F&T after I had the PPP. Frizzel charged me the same premium but with a much lighter excess (about £300 I think). Frizzel are not too concerned about mods at all.

Cheers
Darren.

Requiring a tracker is definatly not postcode related.

I live in Norfolk which is genrally very good for insurance. Tesco's told me that I would require one just due to the desirability factor. Revs voted them the best get away cars - maybe insurance companies read revs!!! :-)

I reinsured my 98 UK spec in December with Eagle Star Direct.
Also told them I have a SS back box.
15,000 miles per year
35 years old
Clean license
Excess £200

£626

Had to have a cat 1 immobiliser/alarm but didnt require a tracker.

Maybe worth a call.

Tracker requirement for Privilege must be a new thing. I'm based in central Scotland, standard UK MY99 and got mine with them 6 months ago (£720 - 32 yrs old three years NCB - fully comp and protected).

Hope they don't demand it for the renewal!

Rich.
