Who cares?....well, apart from wah, Mr.Cookie, Little Miss WRX, POC.....hmmm!

Am I the only one that couldn't care less about top speed?

Anything over the ton is pretty irrelevant to me. Even if you drive like your pants are on fire up our way, you'd still be struggling to get over the ton. Too many corners!

There's nothing wrong with a GTI-6 ive owned 2 of em before i saw the light and bought my MY00 turbo havnt looked back but for a general run about its a great car to have fun in with an excellent 6 speed box but no match for a standard uk turbo in either grip or performance.

Oh i must also comment that a 306 GTI-6 isnt capable of exceeding 150mph either! (i know, ive tried ) the estimated top speed to the red line is approx 147mph, somewhat slower than a scoob who will have a little bit more left on the rev counter

(havnt posted for a day or so so have to get my quotes in for the week )

GTI-6
1st 37mph
2nd 67mph
3rd 87mph
4th 107mph
5th 127mph
6th 147mph
(all to the red line )

(lets just say that a uk car is capable of around 130mph in 4th and another 30mph left in top!)

5th gear, 8000rpm, 160mph - wrx sti version iv type-r coupe.....

Only thing it had at the time down to it was a Monster Sport Exhaust, and a Monster Sport Filter.

So for a wrx, I am guessing 135 - 145?

Cool

MY 93 WRX indicates 145 - 150 on the rev limiter in top.

Useful for cruising in Northern France along those nice straight (er, private) roads, while trying to keep up with motorbikes!!

ChristianR

looks more like 7,800rpm / 157mph to me

betcha that wasnt in Jersey, unless you had it jacked up
on axle stands
Longest straight strech I know of in Jersey is the airport runway and even that aint long enuff to reach them speeds in a car

I had 165.3mph GPS reading from a P1 on the flat (speedo was off the dial a fair bit before) at Bruntingthorpe on a normal warm day (so no advantage for the turbo). There may well be GPS over-reading but I reckon that 160 is perfectly achievable for a P1 or STi with appropriate gearing. From what I've heard, I wouldn't recommend staying at that speed for too long though

Don Palmer was in the passenger seat btw, I reckon that cost me a bit on the top end (j/k)

I think the P1 is quicker top end than the Sti having driven both but the sti gearing is a lot closer giving better accelleration !

My scooby runs to 250 km/h = 155 miles
one time i was after a 911 carrera 996 and then the clock was at 260 km/h = 161 miles
my scooby is My 98 with full exhaust system changed (no cats),K&N filter panel and shell v-power fuel (99 oct)
anyway i didn't buy this car thinking about its top speed, but about the corners and the speed reachable out of them...
this car is magic in 1st,2nd and 3rd gear...test it in a country road and you'll forget about top speed.

I do enjoy these threads - I hope it doesn't get deleted/locked like the last one like this.

I have seen "someone" drive my 95 WRX at 153 mph before the runway end approached.
