Focuseye? Actually its dead cert to be called 'the hatch'!
I think when we get hotter versions we will be surprised at how much better it looks (thinking Focus RS v boggo 1.6 series1), the new car doesn't look bad - it just doesn't look good - or like a Subaru for that matter!

does any body think that its possilbe that the suits at Subaru may be in a panic because of the widepread negative feedback they are receiving? I don't know.
If they had any sense they would go back to the drawing board. Literally.

Widespread - as in a few ppl who have never seen one tucked away in a corner of the internet are whinging about it ?
Get real. The uk market is a drop in the ocean for sales (cars, movies, games - you name it we're nothing... erm maybe Tea and pints of bitter).
We get 'watered down' versions of most cars at high prices and usually the last to get a model launch to. Yeah I bet subaru are really papping it.

i really hope so...
i hope its a failure, because they will definetely go back to the older saloon style if it is!

You assume it's not the STi, which hasn't been developed yet.
I'm sure subaru have at least a 5 if not a 10year plan for development on the new chasis. All you can judge is the pre-release photos. Things will change during the life of the model so why not just wait and see ?

The whyeye! Simple.... Why? And no link to geordies intended by the way.
In all honesty though I believe we should reserve our judgement, as I have said before, this could be a surprise waiting to happen. The artificially generated pictures I've seen don't look to bad and it could be even better than these. That may be why they are delaying the STi model because they know they need to get it just right. They may well not be as bothered about the UK market but given that the japanese love performance vehicles, as we do, they will be caring about their opinion. Don't you think?

I've said it before and i'll say it again, REMAKE the Classic,
A Classic with todays STI engine, running gear, interior and STI gear box would be far better than the bag of ****e thats due out

but if they modernised it.. like porsche do with a 911 (you can always see the progression and it keeps the basic 911 shape). then id like that very much

I dont know what the japanese public think about it, I've not seen any comments either way. The model we've 'seen' so far isn't aimed at the performance market anyway.
I'll be interested to see how they pitch the launch of the new model. Their main impreza page on subaru.co.uk currently shows the wagon and boasts
"At the top of the range, the 230PS 2007 WRX saloon gains a subtly enhanced exterior appearance and claims the prestigious 2007 Towcar of the Year award for its outstanding 2.5 litre turbocharged engine".
Hardly hoping to attract the 300bhp modified classic market are they.
