Default Please tell me about my new car.

Sorry wrong area - anyone know how to move it ??

Hi there - I've had a clasic for about a year now and have finally upgraded to a '54 plate STI Import. Could you please tell me about this type of car as i have absolutely no clue at all. Is it 2 litre ?? I'll get some pics up when i pick it up next weekend.

What power are they as standard -
What basic tuning options are there ?
Is the standard alarm and immobiliser cat 1 ?
Will the P1 wheels off my classic fit ?
Anything to note as it's a japanese import ?

Your help on this matter would be great.

Thanks peeps.

Hi Natalie, I have a UK STI 05 model, they are 265bhp standard. I dont think the alarm on the import is Thatcham spec but i think the rest is more or less the same as UK spec.

Nat,

Power is more like 300bhp off the boat but that is on the stronger jap fuel as mentioned previously.

The car will be running the twin-scroll turbo set-up so you will notice you don't have the famous burble anymore. I've got mine to a safe 370/370 with the help of Bob Rawle and a few mods.(listed in view my scooby.)

Personally i would get it remapped as this will take you to 350bhp ish pretty easily with just a change of exhaust. It will also help with the weaker fuel issues over here (even using v-power) meaning you won't have to use OB.

Yes it's a 2 litre

The P1 wheels won't fit.

They don't come with alarms as standard so if it has one you willl to check the docs or get someone to look at it and confirm.

Nothing else really to note other than the engine has uprated internals over the uk spec. Redline will be 8,000 instead of 7,500. Have you got the diff controller in yours? if so you have the GL so will also have other goodies like HID's, folding morrors, rear wiper etc..

Keep a listen out for a knocking noise coming from the struts - this is a common problem on all 8's/9's

Exclamation

Are you guy's sure she doesn't mean an EU import..?

If so it's basically the same spec as the UK..

If it is a JDM then all that pippyrips has posted applies..

Look on your V5 (if you have it) for clarification of origin.

no idea - i saw Bob in february though you've seen him more recently right?

TBH launch control is a loose fitting name. Bob programmes the car to hold a chosen number of revs when stationary (with the throttle flat to the floor) making good starts easier to achieve. As soon as the cars senses forward momentum the limiter lets go and you get the full beans. I hardly ever use it but it is nice to say you have it

Did you get the high/low boost maps?

Anything to note as it's a japanese import ?
Mine is a 04 JDM STi and is 350bhp with just a remap and exhaust, she is also 370ft/lb of torque ( see featured car of the day )

See Richard Bulmer for remap to V power

280bhp
What basic tuning options are there ?
remap and exhaust will give you 350bhp on a jdm
Is the standard alarm and immobiliser cat 1 ?
It should have a cat 1 alarm / immobiliser as part of the SVA process
Will the P1 wheels off my classic fit ?
No they wont clear the brakes
Anything to note as it's a japanese import ?
Get it remapped to UK fuel as soon as possible or run octane booster

The offical figure quoted by Subaru is 280 though they are more around the 300 mark - i know mine was. (Powerstation say the same on their website)

Hi guys

Thanks very much for all your info, i just picked her up tonight and am loving it!

It has got the diff controller, funky mirrors and a rear wiper.

Does anyone know how much a remap will set me back? Do i need the full exhaust ie decats? I am in the Bedford area - any recommendations for the remap?

I will get some pics up as soon as possible.

Thanks,

Nat xx

Nat,

a new tek 3 map will come in around £500-£700 dependant on where you go. You could save a few pennies by organising a group buy. I did one through Bob Ralwe and you would do well to do the same.

BRDevelopments

You don't need to fully de-cat though it certainly helps. If you didn't want to go that far you could get a sports cat system. Millteks are great on these cars so you could look to powerstation for supply.
