what grade
can some one point me the right way in oil grade as every where i go its all diff so not sure what to use and also what make.
car is a 99 wrx sti import

And we all have to make up our own mind. I use either motul or mobil 1 15w50 fully synthetic and i've never had a problem in over 40000 miles of 2nd hand scooby miles!

What does your handbook tell you?
Subaru have spent £££££££££ Millions on researching which Oils suit their cars and have given you their answer in the little book .................... use that, or ignore it and pay more than you need to - it's a free world.

i personally use whatever jason puts in when he services my car. i trust a mechanic over my own judgement, especially when it comes to keeping my engine happy.
do you think the type of oil used should make difference depending if the engine itself has low, average or high miles?

using lidl's £10 for 10 litres may be your cup of tea lewis, especially considering your driving style. but those of a more exciting driving nature, may want to part a couple more pounds for the sake of higher grade oil.
as for one born every minute... well for one so intellectual and smart, why is it everytime you want to buy something, no matter how big or small, you wait for dozens of opinions and replys on here?

Firstly, it's COMMA 
...... however, I should be in a COMA with all the claptrap talked about Oil and how some get fleeced because they simply do not understand Liquid Engineering!
Buy what you want - I will stick with my choice of Oil, which happens to match the Subaru Engineers choice (not hard to understand when I am an Engineer too!) and that is a 10W-40 Semi. COMMA just happens to offer outstanding value and therefore (for those who know what they are talking about) it is the wise choice.
Putting Racing/Rally Oil in your runaround Impreza is complete folly - but, if it makes you rest easy at night it worries me not. It's like feeding a HD 1080p signal into your 1971 Bush TV ...... it simply cannot use what is being offered and therefore you would feed the signal recommended by Bush in 1971, which costs significantly less to obtain!

Yes, it's true that there are some overpriced oils on the market which will have been one of the reasons the original poster asked the question, although he does state type not brand.
So, in essence, any oil of equivalent or higher spec to Subaru's recommendation. It just depends on your driving style. You'll get SOME good advice on here, just watch out for sharks and trolls.

for the sake of a few quid, why not put a better grade oil into the car?
why have a daft spoiler on the back, if it makes no difference to the cars performance, in 99% of drivers situations?
why do anything to your car. why put a ninja exhaust on yours ay pete? surely the standard one will be fine and dandy, in 99% of driving conditions
