Default HELP!! where can I find the engine no.?

I know it's on the VIN plate, but what stops someone putting an WRX engine in an STI......?

The VIN still says STI......

Is there any physical way (apart from red manifold) of telling?

Thanks....

Get a reputable garage to look at it

Mines definitley an sti... as it's a 2 dr. The only thing that bugs me is that the manifold is not red (doen't look like its ever been red?).

It has all the usual sti extras incl. DCCD, VF22 turbo etc. and drives like an STI but just doen't have the red top?

I had it checked out my Zak at Mocom Racing quickly of the weekend and he thought it was an STI engine, but I just want to be 100% sure.

Anybody?
