if i was to import say a fmic from hong kong or australia,
would i be presented with a large import tax bill before goods handed over ?? thanks for any advice

Usually yes, and a rip-off handling fee from who ever handles the package this side.. e.g. Parcelforce charge £20 even if it's a DVD..

Ask the seller to mark it as a warranty return as you cant pay tax twice

its like you have had one and it you had paid tax but it was faulty so you sent it back and they are sending you a replacment
