Is my RB5 Engine dead??
Well
I have had my RB5 4 weeks now. I had an oil and filter change done the day I got her. The last week or so I have smelt a burning smell from under the bonnet. After lifting the bonnet, there was some smoke but then it would die down. If was coming from the left hand side of the engine as ya look at it.
I have checked the dipstick today, and there is not much oil left in her. Does that mean my engine is dead? A good friend of mine said it sounds like there is an oil leak somewhere and the heat of the engine is burning it giving it the smell and smoke. It drives spot on and the temperature never goes over half way...thoughts please????

Im no expert but it sounds as if you have a leak near or on your turbo which is then dripping onto the downpipe.
Best thing is to keep the oil topped up and take her to a garage (dealer or speciallist) where they can get a good look at it

as far as i know mate the oil filter is on the left hand side of the engine and as you had a oil change they have to fit a new filter or the seals may go so check there first as for the smoke there is a pipe that runs of the turbo towards the front of the car it gets very hot and if oil drips on it, it will smoke loads hope i could help Dan

might be worth checking the rocker cover gaskets. The one nearest the turbo is prone to leaks due to the heat generated off the turbo. You might find that it is leaking onto your up-pipe/headers

If you can't see any obvious leaks, I'd jack it up and check the oil filter first, you'll need to take the plastic sheild to get to it. Then I'd check the other suggested areas (above)
