Default MY96 WRX to 2.5 WRX PPP ?

Chaps and Chapesses

After some advice.

The time has come to change my MY96 WRX for something newer. Budget is (maybe) up to 25K GBP.

Been thinking about a 2.5 STi PPP as this might be fun, but I've read (here) that is feels very different to drive as it is not as much on/off as the old engines were. Now this may not be a bad thing. I might investigate a WR1, but what do people think.

It will only do 6K miles a year and also needs to be able to tow my boat around (light catamaran) so a tow hitch is a must have. Not sure wifee could live with 2 doors.

So, should I go for a WR1, or will it get nicked the day after I put it on the drive, or might the PPP STi be a better plan ?

Many thanks in advance

Simon

None of my business like, but why bother for only 6k miles a year? Get a decent all rounder of a car that will cover all your needs and still let you drive it all year around? Seems like money to waste if you aint gonna drive it, you will still lose on it.

It's a my car; Wifee has a V70 for lugging kids and stuff around; Trips to the sailing club and events, and I drive to the station 2 days a week. Only 6K miles as I work in the city and so it hardly moves during the week. It is not an 3rd car.

If i had £25k, i'd be viewing up something from Litchfields.

More than likely an STi RA.

What about servicing ? Will the Subaru UK dealership network do it ?

I've got Quimby just up the road in Baldock.

Yeah, they'll service it. Probably be glad to. To get such a model in their garage.

Well,

after a fair amount of faffing around and dealer discussions, I've decided to buy a WR1 from Quinby's in Baldock. Pick it up next Saturday.

Cannot wait.

I was told today that they are not going to be Subaru Dealers at the end of this month...... this was from another dealer who's showroom I popped into today..... did anyone there say anything or have I been told a load of tosh?

Sounds like what happened to Wilsons at Chadwell Heath - Chopped the new car sales to be a "Subaru Service & Used Car Sales Agent" and when I went to them last week - ONE 2002 STI Scooby only - the rest were Mitsi's. Turned out to be a complete waste of time.......

No - wasn't at Slip End, don't want to get the dealership into trouble so won't say where as I go into them fairly regularly!
