THE FRONT WHEELS ON MY CAR ARE NOW TARNISHED ALL OVER DUE TO HEAT,PADS AND GENERAL GRIME. I HAVE USED WONDER WHEELS ETC BUT NOW EVEN THAT WONT SHIFT IT. LETS JUST SAY I`M GONNA BE MAKING A PHONE CALL TO im TOMORROW. pLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN USING TO KEEP YOUR P1 WHEELS WITH AND IF YOU ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I THINK THAT I`M NOT GOING TO BE THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM. I REGUARLY CLEAN MY CAR AND HAVE USED ALL THE PRODUCTS IN MY GARAGE ON MY PREVIOUS SPEEDLINE WHEELS WITH NO PROBLEMS.INTERESTINGLY THIS IS ONLY A PROBLEM WITH THE FRONT WHEELS.ITS LIKE THE **** IS BAKED ON NOW.

This could be down to the pads and the dust produced.Some pads produce more dust than others.Have you tried t cut this should remove all brake dust and tar spots etc, it has always worked for me.About all I can suggest for now
(Buddy sti v5 type r) p.s You can get plastic covers to go over the disc but they look a bit cat.

Not a good idea to use wonder wheels very often- it's acidic and strips the wheels.

Better use T Cut gently then seal the wheels with polish or Turtle wax brake dust barrier.

I used to use Mr sheen (put it on a cloth- don't spay near the brakes!) but have found the turtle wax stuff to be quite good.

It's best to apply each time you wash the car.

As I suspected I`m not the only one with problems here. I`m not accepting any bull**** here so it`s new wheels and different pads for me at least! The discs on my car have only done 6000 miles and to me looked shagged. I was waiting for the 7500 mile service but this wheel fiasco today has finally pushed me too far. If it isnt sorted I going to Birmingham to find the main man to hear his views.

my fronts on my MY99 are pretty marked up too. If I don;t clean them every few weeks it quadruples the time to clean them- never had any other car with problems like this.

THe rears are OK so it's got to be pad related.

Lot's of luck with IM. If you get any luck let us know- I'd be amazed though. ALways been utter wan5erz in my experience.

These DIY solutions are all well and good, but I'd get the dealer to sort it out. If you try something and shaft it, the dealer will be able to point the finger at you?

in my experience - WD40 works on the nastiest of brake dust - use lots of it (avoiding the brakes) hasn't damaged any of my wheels yet (why should it?)

I use merlin wax now, and done weekly, the brakes dust just rinses off.

Have to agree with Puff on this one, Mr WaxWizzard treated my wheels, and the crud came off really easilly at the weekend.

The problem Arron is suffering is not a simple case of brake dust though, it is actual lumps of pad residue from the DS3000 pads he is running, as supplied by Prodrive.
These are the same material that Touring Cars use, and are extremely hard on wearing discs, according to AP.
I had the same problem when I was using them on my car, but managed to get the lumps off before they became too much trouble.

We are making some progress with IM will let you know how it goes.It appears thet Prodrive and Subaru are aware of the problem and are making another pad up. I have to wait until its done b4 I get my new wheels.
If you have the same problem as me you must talk to them, dont sit on it.

I am sure it is pad AND disc residue.

My wheels have a rust layer on top of the gunge, which falls mainly on the front of each spoke.

Yes, Prodrive are testing a new pad but my interim fix (as previously posted) is new discs and DS2000.

I tried Wax Wizard wax protection and also two of their wheel cleaners. It doesnt work. Only solution was to use a kitchen type scratch pad to bore through the build up. I only did this once and they still were not perfect and this was after about 50 miles on brand new wheels.

IM/Prodrive are being cooperative so I would advise anyone with a problem to contact their dealer and IM without delay.

Also, I think everyone with the Alcon/DS3000 combination should have their discs checked immediately. Mine looked OK from the outside but the inside grooves have been worn away.

I'll post any further developments as and when.

As per email I see you have managed to have your pads wheels and discs changed, how far were your discs worn?
I'm asking cos I've had my kit now for 3 months, and the groves on the outside of this discs are virtually gone!!!
I cannot believe that these discs wear so much in 3 months, do people with AP's or Brembo suffer this?
I'm seeing my dealer on Thursday cos there is a Subaru engineer visiting, I won't accept anything else but new discs, pads and WHEELS!!!!!!

Please everyone let me know how you all get on. I`m not sure which pads I`ve got fitted they came with the kit and it was all fitted when I picked the car up from new.

DS3000 as a road pad!

They give off sparks that burn into the laquer of the wheel and perminantly damage them. Not a good idea if you want your wheels to look nice!!

i dunno for sure arron, but that is what stef is saying comes with the kit.

I had a long chat some months ago with the techie guys at Ferrodo about the DS2000 and DS3000 pad range and they were adamant that the DS3000 should not be used with road wheels if you want them to stay in good condition.

In fact they will not sell DS3000 via there normal dealer base, they only sell them to the motorsport outlets as they do not class them as a road pad.

Still we`ll see how it resolves itself and test the efficiency of Subaru`s award winning after sales .
I`ve alsi been informed that there is a new bumper and front spoiler available now and that I can have one of those too, as my car is a nice blue and speccled white after only 6000 miles! We`ll see.

Discs were quite worn. The grooves had disappeared on the inside of the disc and there wasnt much left on the outside of the disc.

Now have new discs and DS2000 pads. Wheels were cleaned ( took about 1 1/2 hours !) but are still not perfect. New wheels are on order but I needed the wheels on the car as clean as poss to see if the Ds2000's are causing any problem or not.

Just going out to bed them in.

Interesting comments about road use on the DS3000. Why do people make these stupid mistakes ?? It really is beyond me......

ps list price on the discs is about £260 each or around that anyway, at least I think it was each ??

I use a sponge back non scratch scourer on mine! It,s excellent for getting this build up off of the wheels, it does take a bit of rubbing though, they're also excellent at removing flies etc off the paint in the summer months. And they really don't scratch.

I heard on the TV that Mr Burns has six pot water cooled brakes.

Anyone know if these are available after market??

The sparks are metal particles that burn through the protective laquer to the base alloy, this will destroy the looks and eventually will lead to corosion.

They are as a result of using DS3000 pads, these were developed purely for racing, they are not a road pad.
