I think you're probably looking at the same requirements for the Sti as you are for any other high performace motor.
Ensure it is serviced properly, looked after properly, etc and it should give many miles of motoring pleasure.
I think it is pretty much essential to have import Sti's set up/mapped correctly for UK fuel and if this hasn't been done and the car has been driven over here for some time, you can expect that there's been some "det".....and that ain't good! As it's a 1999 car, Ecutek is probably the most widely used and recognised remap......get it done!
Much of it depends on how the car has been driven (as for all cars). Drive them hard and look after them properly and they should be ok, drive them hard and don't look after them.......in the words of the old crooner Nat King Cole....."There may be trouble ahead".
Check where it's been serviced and see if it's an independent specialist, or just Joe Bloggs back yard garage. If it was my money going on an imported Sti, I'd be looking for a car with the best history I could find.
