Default Rumour mill alert... big WRX discounts.

Evening all,
Just got off the phone to a mate of mine who works at a Subaru dealership [can't say which one of course ]. He said that SUK are planning to bung the delaers a big discount to get rid of the limited number of remaining WRXs before the new Impreza comes in. Aparrently, it's not going to be publicised - more of a word-of-mouth thing through the dealers. He couldn't/wouldn't tell me how much yet - I don't think he knows - but the said they're expecting to find out this week.

When I manage to get the figures out of him I'll post again. Might have to buy him a few beers in the pub mind...

Right then. better get my drinking head on. If I buy him enough I might be able to afford that new WRX after all.

Better be big discounts as it's a run-out model and I mean 30%

I still can't imagine them becoming cheaper than the imports.

I read in the Economist (magazine) a couple of months ago that the Yen is considered to be overvalued by 40%.
In view of the fact that Subarus are made in Japan (as opposed to Europe) there is even more scope for discounting!

All previous model cars get heavily discounted when the new one comes out, can't see you getting a new WRX for less than the £14k you can buy one for if you search around though

Yes, maybe, but no-one would buy an Import if they were the same price would they??

Stand a proper Impreza UK car alongside an Import on the forecourt and the Import needs to be far cheaper to find a buyer.

Not saying it makes sense, but it is how it is.

Maybe not. We'll have to see how big the discount is and what you can wangle from you local dealer. Personally, I'd much rather have a pukker UK vehicle with a proper warranty & backup than a European import from the likes of Motorpoint who basically flog you it and tell you to bugger off. As I said though it does depend on how close the proper dealer can get. Proper service and customer care has a value, I'll have to decide what that value is when the time comes.

Plus, if I bought one from Motorpoint, my mate would never speak to me again...

Head hurts this morning. Many beers last night and he still wouldn't/couldn't tell me.

They had the 06 wrx down to £16495 earlier this year at my local dealer(montys of sheffield)so i dare say there will be more scope to shift an outgoing model,Even if they dropped to £15000,people would be nuts to by euro with no tracker/cat 1 etc

If they were the same price then yeah you have a point, BUT if the UK ones dropped in price then wouldn't it mean the imports would also?

I didn't think the UK WRX came with a tracker? I thought that was only the STI's?
