Unhappy STI vs 335i

I have been driving Scoobys for more than 5 years and even when I test drove my friends E46 M3 I still preffered my Bug-Eye.
On Saturday though I drove the new 335 (engine of the year) and must confess I will take it without thinking twice.
Here in SA the price is roughly the same and I think performance wise my staai has its work cut out.
I never thought I would consider a Bimmer, really a sad day :-(

i'm assuming that 335 equates to a 3.5L engine? So almost double the size then - nothing like comparing apples with elephants

You could still get it, but you'd need to tick the option for "side-mounted flamethrower".

Seems an excellent car.

I think you'll find in SA that they are armed and quite prepared to shoot you dead in the blink of an eye..

You might be lucky to get one for around £34,000 here in the UK
You can pick up an Euro STI for £21,995 thats a difference of arond £12,000 for UK people - not in the same price range.

interesting this little debate, had a go at a 335i last week
and i could have passed him (modded classic 300hp) my
car quicker!

On the other hand im sure he was sat in the lap of
luxury with the sound of classical music wofting around
his plush leather cabin etc etc etc

They are chalk and cheese really, i have a 30k budget
for a company car or £5 car allowance, keep toying with
the idea of getting a 325D but the car allowance just about
covers the cost of fuel for the scooby so im slightly better
off (so far) like BMW though had a M3 Evo in estoril blue
and loved it not quite the same as the scooby though is it?

Forgetting image my classic is a more capable car than the M3
and no doubt the 335i but will never again have any sort of image
what so ever but thats not the point though is it?

I didnt buy the scoob for image i bought it because point to
point for everyday use it's an animal

£5 - are you perhaps confusing your lunch allowance with your car allowance ?

Considering the problems that causes at Asda, I can't imagine how a BMW dealership would react.

OK the coupe is quite a bit more expensive but then the STI is not a coupe but a sedan. The 335i sedans price is R415000 (1 pound = +-R14). This price includes 100 000km maintenace plan. Sti price in SA is R394 000 (with a 2-3% increase in a months time) which have a 63 000km maintenance plan. Now image was never an isue for me only the driving experience, and that goes both ways. If Tata makes a performance car that competes with Subaru I will seriously have a look at it.
My biggest gripe with Subaru at this stage is the fact that they have been caught with there pants on there ankles. For the past 10 years we had an increase from 195kw to 206kw for the STI. Everybody loves to compare the STI with an M3. M3's available in SA went from 210kw(E36) to 309kw(new one comming out). Now we need to start comparing our beloved STI with lower 3 series model to try and be competitive.
I am not even mentioning the WRX that is now competing with Golfs, Fords and Renaults performance wise.
Come on Subaru catch a wake up, if the new STI is not going to have at least 240-250kw I am sad to say they will be missing the bus.

Guy at my work has one in black with the 19 nich wheel upgrade and I have to say it looks stunning. A very different car from a Subaru, but a stunning one all the same.

It is true that a goodly few BM drivers are w*nkers - even the BM bike riders seem to be of similar type.
However, I must say that I have seen a few Scooby drivers who are prize f*cking w*nkers as well, so I would have to say there isn't that much in it lads.

Inclined to agree there, a lot of them (3 series rep brigade in particular) think it gives them some kind of social status to be driving a car which, let's face it, is about as common as a Ford Mondeo
