Hi,

I get a sort of 'droning' noise. This sounds like the type of sound you'd get from a dodgy wheel bearing but i put it down to the rear diff as well.

Know a fella with a VW Golf 4motion and he has the same.

Not much help to you i know but i'd be interested what comes of this mate.

Cheers

rear diff was something i mentioned to them but they all said straight away not that.it was the dealer yesterday that said it's the brakes but why build a twenty five grand car and leave it with brakes that make a row.
i do have a freind who picking one up soon i may wait and see how her's sounds

Take it down to Scoobyclinic for a decent diagnosis, I'm sure they'll oblige. Then go back to dealer with evidence of whats actually wrong for warranty fix.

i also get a droning, kinda like a noisy diff, or poor sound insulation, i had my car from new with 32miles on the clock, it was there then, and has got no worse, no better, i thought it was supposed to be like that.i put a TSL grpN backbox on and de-resonator, and i can't hear it now, the exhaust masks it.

That's one way to sort it

It maybe summit totally different from what Goodwood Scooby has got but pretty sure mine is the rear diff that's droning - it isn't annoying or particularly bad,you just get used to it.

I also find the brakes grind a little at very low speeds, when braking to a stop, was told this was down to the brakes being a harder compound

hi there, have been having same problem with my 56wrx. rubbbing, grinding type of noise from the back brakes. took it to dealers and was told straight away without even taken the wheels off that they were shot ! corroded and pitted ! suprised that he said corroded as done 14k in mine since new (sept 06). they have just finally had the go ahead off international motors to carry out warranty work. they have been told to take off the disks and skim them ! very suprised at this as will this not seriously shorten life span.

i thought ok, if they were just corroded but to skim when pitted?

spoke to a guy yesterday from subaru uk got his direct number from the contract hire firm, nice bloke but was a bit miffed his dealers are telling punters drive them till they go bang then we will fix it.

his words

subaru do not make cars that have a grinding noise.
subaru dealers do not let unfit cars out on the road.
give me 48 hrs to look into it and get back to me.

so sorry folks if you have a noise somethings wrong it needs looking at tyre noise yip droning or grinding no

I had a similar problem/noise with my rear brakes, I returned it to the garage that I bought the car from and they had a look....

The cause was dirt and grime on the edge of the brake pads, after braking when the brake pistons returned to the normal position the pads remained in contact with the discs thus causing a droning/dragging noise, brakes cleaned up and copper grease applied and no problem since.

My noise was on a 52 plate but the pads had only been replaced a couple of weeks previous so it would appear that dirt builds up quite quickly.

Hope that helps.

If there's a noise, maybe there's a problem too. You better check on your breaks. Mine is okay, by the way.
