The best tyres to BYE are the cheapest, Unless you race or do trackdays, If you listen to most of the half wits on here you would need to be spending twice as much for some overated tyre, On the public roads of England even the cheapest trye you can buy is ok, If you cannot drive on these tyres within the speed limits in a great handling AWD car like an impreza then even simple driving/handling course should really be a must, should be an extension to the driving test in my opionion. You should not rely on your tyres

I would say along with brakes tyres are the most important thing to get the best, after all they (four hand sized contact patches) are all thats connecting you to the road!

I have Toyos but people say the F1's are the best and from experience of them on other cars they are probably right.

Have to agree with Pete about the Falkens, although I'm going to suggest FK451 or 452 rather than the real cheap ones.

Excellent tyres, and highly rated by anyone who's tried them.

Normally round rubber ones work a treat.

I have the FK451's on the Front

And just had the FK452's on the Rear

These are the ones I would recomend - £62 a corner too!!

to pick up on what tronic says above, the 451 / 452 use the F1 tread pattern but are softer, so they grip better but don't last quite as long.

The sidewalls on the Toyo T1s and T1r are a bit soft for enthusiastic drivers, although they are a real good, and highly regarded, tyre.

I still buy the FK452's though, now that the Bridgestone SO2pp's aren't available.

I think they've stopped making 451's??? My tyre place could only get me 452's. 451 had a much prettier tread pattern. Still think 452's are good.

I always used to use Eagle F1's, but always found the shoulders went a bit before the rest of the tyre. I'm now on Michelin Pilot Exaltos and I'm very pleased with them indeed. That's on standard 16" rims.

Lewis when are you going to learn that cheap tyres should be made illegal in the UK.

Nankang, Falken, Matador, Road champ, Linglong, Maxxis etc are all inferior brands that are completely unsuitable for the UK climate, yet they are sold here...but they should not be.

The reason? Wet/damp performance, and cold weather performance: These tyres, compared to say Michelins, will ALWAYS fare worse. Stopping distances in emergency stop situations being the main issue; Even at speeds as low as 20mph! And ABS will not save you if the tyres don't grip. So if that kid gets knocked down because of your inferior performing tyres, well, at least you saved a petty £20 per tyre.

Andy, I'd rate the 451's and 452's above Toyo's. I do have substantial experience of both / all, and am not just talking through my **** here

What are the 452 sidewalls like, road noise and wet (damp) performance like compared to the Toyos?

Personally I think the T1-s are rubbish on damp roads, which surprised me considering the rave reviews they get.

Eagle F1's
Toyo T1-R
Avon ZZ3's

Any of those really. Although I really lke the pattern on the ZZ3's. Or you could go to 17's and start getting into Bridgestone RE050 etc.

I'll never buy Toyo T1R's again.... They make the car feel terrible....
R888's however are good for track, althoug I use Silverstone's on track.
I liked the Goodyear F1's & Yoko Prada's.

I'll go for Michelin. For me, it's more durable than Falkens.
